Advantages: One of the best looking games of this generation, good story, solid controls
Disadvantages: Story gets a little tedious at times, no replay value
I wasn't that impressed with Uncharted 1. Controversial, I know. It wasn't that it was a bad game, at all. It looked great and played well, but it was hyped up to the gills and felt to me like little more than Tomb Raider with a guy.
Uncharted 2, however, really did impress me. I'm not sure why, but I didn't expect that much from it, probably because of how I felt about the first game, but about halfway through the game I realised I really didn't want to put it down. It looks absolutely stunning, the controls are simple, if infuriating (but only on a personal level - devs, you have a button that's a trigger - why would you NOT use it as the fire button?), and the story is great. If features familiar faces from the first game, as well as new friends, and although the story gets a little tedious at times (one character betrays you and befreinds you again so many times I lost count), it's still enough to keep you playing. The game's a good length at around 10-12 hours, but it's certainly one of those games where once you're done, you're done. There's really nothing to keep you coming back for more.
Weapons are varied, ranging from snipers to machine guns to hand cannons, and each one is very distinct from the last. Cover works well, simply press O and you'll spring into the nearest piece, and you're able to pop up and shoot pretty accurately from there. You can also make use of context sensitive hand to hand attacks from cover - for example, if hanging from a ledge, you can pull an enemy who is standing on said ledge over and plummeting into the abyss below. I thought that was a great touch as it helps keep things fresh, and it's a really useful tactic at times. Regular hand to hand is also good, if a little suicidal at times when there's more than one enemy around you. Unlike other games, they won't wait for you to finish - you'll be getting pinged with bullets all through your fight!
In summary, this is one of the most (if not THE most) visually stunning games on the PS3, and it has the gameplay to match. There's nothing to keep you coming back for more once you've finished, aside from trophy hunting, but it's a great ride while it lasts.
Summary: Recommended for all PS3 owners
