I have always been a huge fan of the Unreal Tournament series, and was excited to learn that Unreal Tournament 2007 would be the first next-generation Unreal game. Like the previous games, this is an intense, frenetic, sprawling, and extremely fun gaming, with the online offering once again being the stand-out feature. That said, the single-player is also quite fun, although I wouldn't recommend getting the game unless you can play online, because that is BY FAR the real reason to get UT2K7.
The UT series is a reaction to the slow gameplay of the likes of Counterstrike: it is very fast-paced and rarely will you last longer than 30 seconds before you're killed. There are tonnes of weird and wonderful weapons, each of which has an extra secondary use attached to it. My favourite part, though, is the vehicles, which range from lumbering, armoured tanks to high-flying light vehicles, and it really helps create a frenetic and exciting atmosphere.
Visually, it's a pretty nice-looking game too even if it's not all that it could be. The gun models in particular look great, and the sprawling maps have impressive draw distances. It doesn't measure up to the likes of Modern Warfare 2 now, but it still looks good! Aurally, the game maintains the high standard set by the series, from the gunfire, to the death sounds, to the deep and booming announcer voice: it all helps to add to the excitement and intensity.
In short, don't even bother if you don't have your PS3 online, because it'll be like torturing yourself: the online is great, although I was hoping for an intuitive ranking system of some sort. However, the gameplay is extremely well-designed and I can't imagine any fan of the previous games not loving this.
i had played one of the unreal tournament games before but on a PC and enjoyed it so when i saw that it was coming to the ps3 i thought i should get it. the graphics were amazing. some of the best i have seen on a playstation game. there is good range of imaginative weapons to use, from the starting pistol up to a portable nuclear rocket launcher that can be guided and everything in between such as a minigun that fires crystal shards that can pin people to walls. there is also a good range of vehicles that come in all shapes and sizes that are fun to drive and fly. as a multiplayer game it is very good. the action is very fast paced. the weak point in this game is the single player campaign. it is good in that you can choose where you want to attack and bonus' to use during the attack (like extra teammates) but they have built the single player around the multi player. i mean that the game tries to make you believe that in the future there are "respawners" and to beat the enemy you have to capture their flag three times to stop their "respawners" and i thought this made the single player a bit weak.
Unreal Tournament III on the PS3 is the most chaotic, frantic Multiplayer shooter you will play period. Primarily a PC based game, this has stood out on the PlayStation 3 due to the developers allowing the use of user generated content on the system. This can be found and downloaded on various community websites giving everlasting life to the game. I must say though, this is a multiplayer game, the single player campaign uses a multiplayer style meaning your playing through level after level of deathmatch, capture the flag and team deathmatch against AI opponents. This leaves you feeling stale after half an hour so unless you have your system hooked up to the internet i wouldn't even consider picking this up.
Powered by the Unreal Engine, this looks fantastic and plays smoothly. You can easily start to build up a community of friends playing this and using a headset makes it all worthwhile.
This is a game that can be played alone or with friends round and certainly go's well with a few beers.
Built on the Unreal Engine 3, this new entry in the deathmatch competition extravaganza features massively upgraded graphics, modifiability and other gameplay features
