Ever since the days of the first batch of really solid rally titles in the PSone era of consoles (think Colin Mcrae, V Rally etc) I have always had a new Rally game in my collection and the one that has been devouring most of my time on my PS3 as of late has been WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011. This was released late on last year which begs the question why it is called 2011 at all but nevertheless do not get confused WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 has only been around for a few short months and I have spent hours and hours in that short time becoming slowly addicted to this.
These days I think it is hard for any racing game to not only be a hit, but to create a fan base as there are that many around sometimes games get released without people noticing and they fall back onto the bargain shelves within weeks. WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 had that fate. Little hype, good reviews but released at a busy xmas time.
This however deserves more credit than it gets. First and foremost what you will find is that this is the only official WRC game meaning that WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 is the only title out there with official courses, tracks and drivers. Any fans of the series will recognise things straight away and the whole thing is well presented to make the most of its "official status".
Graphically it also looks superb and very fews rally titles can match WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 on the PS3 especially in HD. Everything is so crisp, clear and detailed it really is so easy on the eye it makes you want to lick the screen!
What about the gameplay then? All this would not matter if WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 had bad driving gameplay but it doesn't. The controls in this title are tight, responsive and fluid. Its easy to get used to but difficult to master, its thrusting, fast and fierce gameplay that makes you feel totally in control. Cornering is an art, sliding even more so and it all takes time to learn. The car responds as you would expect, you never miss a turn because of bad controls. All in all the controls and driving on WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 feel superb and even if you want to switch buttons or sensitivity you can but the default settings I found perfect.
The races and modes themselves found in WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 are vast. Not only is the career mode more in depth than ever but its tough. You start from scratch in the WRC series and build your way up managing every aspect of your time. Its fantastic and so engrossing and rarely has a career mode in a driving title been so utterly fantastic!
Course design makes this all the more exciting as all the thrills and spills from the real courses are lovingly recreated here in WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 and it takes time to learn them and still after months of gaming you will trying to shave seconds of your time. All the sprints and special stages are here and it feels so accurate.
WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 also comes into its own online with plenty to do and the game has a good following. Even 5 months on there is no problems getting a match of finding people to race and there are some great modes including championships and tournaments to separate the good from the great. It all runs on solid servers and I have had no issues at all so far with this crashing or logging me off.
Add to that online times etc and you have something to keep coming back to time and time again.
Overall I have found WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 to be nothing but a superb, fantastic and deep racing title with solid gameplay, great modes, superb online and WRC 2 - FIA World Rally Championship 2011 is a game I will come back to time and time again!
