This game is great fun at times but may get fustrating and boring after a while... First of all i want to point out that all the other call of duty''s ( Call of duty 4 Call of duty 5 Mw2 Black ops And this one is on the same game engine and it pretty much= Same game.. Singleplayer is great fun to play through and good storyline and just amazing to play! There is plenty of missions to keep you happy and the best story i have ever seen of the call of duty''s so far! well worth playing and could play it million times over again! Multiplayer: Many maps and equipment/guns to keep you ocupied for a while which is the best thing. Customization of equipment is epic and lovly attention to detail to all maps. Graphics: Graphics are not as good as next gen was supposed to be and with other Next gen games coming out this is going to look like a play station 3 game rather than a 4. I havn''t paid much attention to the DLC''s Since this game is a waste of money and i wont spend more money on some junk. Now im not a big hater of Call of duty because i loved Modern warfare 3 and they havn''t put effort into the game and if anything another copy of Modern warfare 3 for the Ps4 would look epic. This game is not realistic one bit and dont like any of the guns and equipment all i like about the game is the maps not the graphical side but the design of it and the scale of the map which is perfect side for a game likes Ghosts but i reccomend not buying this and waiting for Advanced warfare as it is being made by a better game company!
Summary: This is my first video game review, so if it's not my finest work, I apologise in advance. Anyway back to the game, "Call of Duty Ghosts" is a first person action shooter, video game released onto the PS4 (and other consoles) in November 2013. It is the tenth instalment in the popular gaming franchise and once again it sold many, many copies. Reviews were a little mixed though, while gaming critics generally enjoyed the game despite naming a few flaws; fans were a lot more critical. On many fan rating web sites, the game features many scathing reviews and a lot of low star ratings, while I do agree with some of the things people say; I think they are being over-critical and just hating on something that is popular (I mentioned in my Titanic review that people seem to hate what's popular). Now I'm reviewing this game on the PS4 because I recently bought a brand new PS4 a few weeks back, and one of my friends has this game on their Xbox 360; so there will be some comparison between the two generations of gaming. Throughout this review I will talk about the different modes, my general opinion of the game and give my own personal insight on the individual aspects of the game. Enjoy my "Call of Duty Ghosts", review.
Story Mode: Okay so the first thing I'm going to talk about is the different game modes that are on the current disc, the first is the campaign. Now I know most people don't usually buy these type of games for the story but rather the online; well I buy it for all the current content so I decided to play the campaign; not once, but twice. I've completed it on the easiest difficulty, and on the hardest; and I thoroughly enjoyed the story on both playthroughs. Despite being able to complete it on the easiest in around five hours tops, and around six hours on Veteran difficulty (the hardest), I still felt as if I got my money's worth. The campaign begins a little ropey but it soon picks up pace ending on a thrilling climax as you get sucked into the story featuring the main characters. Another thing people talk about when discussing the Call of Duty games is how similar they are year on year, well this campaign contains more than just a few different missions. I won't get into the technicalities on the missions for spoiler-based reasons, but you get to fight in outer space, not once but twice, you get to drive tanks, control helicopters, fight underwater, run down a building among many other great, fun tasks. The difficulty isn't the toughest, as apart from the odd bit here and there, I generally had no trouble with it, even on the hardest setting, even though I'm a relative newbie to COD (Call of Duty). So to sum up the story mode portion of the review, it's fast-paced, enticing, got some great variety of missions, and even though it's short in length; I don't feel short-changed.
Extinction and Squads Modes: So now that we've got the story portion out of the way, we can get onto the other modes in the insanely popular game. Extinction is by far my favourite mode of the game, it's not without it's problems (which aren't the developers fault), but it's fun as heck and got tons of replay value in it. The basic premise is, the Earth has been taken over by aliens and in order to stop them, you must nuke the place where they unearthed, while fighting many of them over time. It's really fun as it offers plenty to do, a huge variety of guns and traps to set, plus it lasts a long time; one attempt could last you over an hour (depending on your team). Now as much fun as this is, the main downside is the people you meet online; to cut a long story short, they suck, big time. I'm not one to toot my own horn or anything, but I rarely; if ever, get downed, I'm always killing more aliens than my team and I'm always deploying things such as ammo and armour to protect them. And as I mentioned before, I'm a relative newbie to COD, so the fact that I'm doing better than everyone else is silly to say the least. Now onto Squads mode, this mode is a lot fun but not something I've played much of, so without going into too many specifics, you can either play against hordes of people with a team or by yourself; and see what numbered round you can get to; or you can play against a team or bots (computer simulated enemies). I've played it a few times and it's good a laugh, but I'd rather play Extinction if I'm honest, but that may just be me.
Multiplayer Mode: Here we come to the Achilles heel part of the game, the primary reason this game only gets a 4, not a 5. I've played many online games on this disc and I've felt nothing but hatred to this game mode; so I won't be coming back to this any time soon. Firstly, the maps are terrible, they're far too big and nothing really sets them apart, they're hardly memorable (give or take a few). Secondly, most of the different modes for online aren't to my liking, this is probably a unique opinion of course; but "Team Death match" is really the only one I actually enjoy. Another thing that really grinds my gears, is the people you meet, and what they do. For starters, they camp, use snipers, and just sit in the same place all map; laying things such as mines in the doorway, not fun let's just say that. And as I said, the maps are huge, so you can run around for 45 seconds; not see anyone, and just get shot in the back by some sniper, not cool pal. I won't go into the debacle about all the squeaky 10 year old's you meet, but we all know what I'm talking about. So to conclude, maybe it's because of the campers, maybe it's all the clans you meet, maybe it's because I'm not very good; but overall the multiplayer is the one I don't enjoy one single bit.
Other: Okay so we've got the primary modes out of the way, let's just talk about the other specifications on the game. Firstly I'll mention the graphics, while they're not the best looking PS4 graphics I've ever seen, they still look impressive and the attention to detail is astounding. I've seen my friend play COD Ghosts on his Xbox 360 and I must say it looks noticeably weaker. The game (on the PS4) is also very fast and something that I'm glad they improved on, whether it's loading the modes, connecting to the online servers or just loading a mission; it's very quick. There are other nice little perks on the game which I like, one of them is the voice acting which is great, the cut scenes are visually stunning and the connection whilst playing online is terrific.
Conclusion: In the final part of this review, I will say one thing, it's a solid shooter; hence the title. It has a fantastic story, the Squads and Extinction mode are brilliant and the graphics superb; not to mention many other nice little touches. But the multiplayer is poor and arguably the worst feature on this game, it's just full of bugs and problems that hold the game back. As for trophies, it's a solid list that's mostly story-based, with the others being for Extinction. You shouldn't struggle to get the full list along with your juicy platinum, but one or two may take up your time. So in conclusion, it's a solid 4 star list, but a better multiplayer wouldn't have killed them.
