Killzone Shadow Fall is the latest installment in the Killzone Series, Shadow Fall is a PS4 exclusive title that was released as one of the PS4's release titles. 25 years after the events of Killzone 3, the Helgans have moved into the planet Vekta and we follow Shadow Marshal Lucas Kellan and his fight.
Gameplay: Killzone Shadow Fall, is a Sci-Fi First Person Shooter. Kellan uses a Rifle called LSR44 which is a rifle used by the Shadow Marshals that can alternate between being a rapid-fire machine gun or a sniper rifle which means the gun can be used in a variety of different ways leading for the game to played in a variety of different ways.
Another piece of equipment Lucas uses throughout the game is an a personal drone with multiple functions which can be implemented using the PS4's controller touch button. The drone can be used to attack a group of targets which is useful to assist Lucas in attacking his enemies or distracting them to let Lucas heal up or attack from a better angle. It can also be used to deploy a person stationary shield that can absorb any damage that is heading Kellan's way allows again to heal or attack with thought of damage. Another feature the drone has to be able to send a massive EMP blast that stuns targets that are human in nature or stun other drones or vehicles, giving Kellan another chance on the battlefield. It is also possible for the drone to deploy a Zip-line that Kellan can use to get across the battle field quickly and efficiently. The final feature the drone is capable of is hacking terminals either to advance the plot line of the game or to hack alarms to stop the Helgan reinforcements coming to attack Kellan.
There are some stealth elements to the game, with the on board scanner to highlight where the enemies are and what type of enemy it is. However you don't have to participate in the stealth sections if you prefer. The choice of how you play is a huge factor with me, i really enjoy the choice.
Many of the other features are the same of any first person shooter however this is a tried and tested tactic and it still works for Killzone Shadow Fall.
Story: The story starts with a young Lucas Kellan following his dad through the newly occupied part of Vekta where they meet up with a Shadow Marshal called Sinclair. Lucas' dad ended up losing his life while escaping the Helgan territory. The story then jumps a few years to when Lucas is himself a Shadow Marshal and basically you follow Lucas through a part of his life where he uncovers a super-weapon and an unlikely ally. The story isn't an original one, however it seems to work really in the Killzone setting and makes you feel for both sides of the war.
Sounds: The sounds in this game are truly immense, this is the crowning achievement of the game in my honest opinion. All the voice acting within the game is almost perfect. They implement the use of the speaker within the controller when people speak to you so you can hear them over the action of the battlefield. All of the sounds feel real and exciting and evenly paced for the whole game.
Graphics: Since this is the one of the release titles for the PS4 and with it being an exclusive the game is beautifully optimized, everything within the game is graphically amazing. Everything looks close to real the textures are some of the best textures I have ever seen on a console. The game is fantastic looking. All of the facial expressions are portrayed to a near perfect quality.
Online: While the single player is a great experience, for me when you play the multiplayer on this game this is where the game really shines. It is a lot slower online game that other first person shooters like Battlefield 4 or Call of Duty however this means for a much fairer fight meaning more enjoyment and longer matches. Since the community is relatively small since it is a new generation console they are all friendly and supportive of new players.
Overall I found the game to be a nice surprise full of enjoyment and fun. Worth a purchase.
