Advantages: Bomb Ball mode, Front cover
Disadvantages: Unrealistic
I've been searching for a decent Tennis game on the Playstation and this is the second one I tried, the first being Actua Tennis which I rented and found to be quite good. Upon searching PLAY magazine, by far the highest rated Tennis game was Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis, so I gave it a try and rented it. I would have preferred a realistic tennis game but I accepted that this was a cartoon style game and gave it a go anyway. Straight away I was very unimpressed as I loaded up a match and found the graphics to be a bit under-par and the ball surprisingly hard to hit at times. I have to pay credit where it is due, the game does become playable as you try to make up for your mistakes, and there is a wide variety of shots as well as some interesting court areas, from a theme park to a street. Also the font cover is 'interesting'. And one mode of this game that is truly unique, original and quite brilliant is the Bomb ball game where the ball is a bomb with a timer and when the time runs out it explodes. If the ball is near you when time is up, you "die" and the next member of your 5-person team takes their place on the court. But I was unimpressed overall at the poor music and lack of realism involved, and I much preferred Actua Tennis.

- 24/09/01 Good op but don't agree. As tennis games go it was pretty good especially on two player mode. |

- 24/09/01 Yes but why would you want to play tennis on a PlayStation? The real thing is much better and healthier - all that fresh air. Blimey I'm turning into my mum - help! Kay |
