Advantages: Sound, Tension

Disadvantages: Graphics, Gameplay

Having paid the full £30 for this game I will try not to pummel everyone into sharing the despair that I suffered. For those of you who don't want to read any further C-12 is a very mediocre game and definitely one to buy on platinum or even swop for.

C-12 is a 3rd person action/adventure game along the same lines as Metal Gear Solid. You take the role of a half human cyborg who has seen better days in a last final attempt to save the world from the technologially vastly superior aliens. The graphics are post apocalyptic and very dark, which for this game, helps to create tension. Both the aliens and your character borrow heavily from themes we have already met in films and other games, right down to how they actually look! Come on guys, insert the original chip!

Moving away from the dodgy plot line we find ourselves with a ropey control system which is the cause of many 'hits' you didn't have to take. Couple this with some poor 3d graphics (walls can disappear from certain angles) and you never quite gain enough confidence to go at it hell for leather. Fortunately, once you get used to the little problems you become engrossed in a game which definitely has that spooky edge and you still jump whenever aliens sneak up on you. A good tip for this game is always to look behind you when you hear a noise.

During the game you receive updates from your CO and a very nice lady who manages to create that slight air of sexual tension, if you happen to be male anyway. This helps greatly in the first few missions but you soon realise that you can guess what to do most of the time simply because the plots are so one dimensional. You are also guided throught the scenery by badly placed cars, trains and fallen buildings so never find yourself wandering aimlessly. This lack of autonomy will help younger players but it left me cold.

After completing the first few missions you start to get very used to the techniques needed
to play the game and although it gets much harder there is never anything really new to excite. Even the big bosses are predictable and reminded me of my desparate attempts to complete Midnight Resisitance in the arcades. Some of the sub games are infuriating. They require accurate positioning of your character (causing you to switch to first person view) and little other skill and are certainly not enjoyable. The only reason you do them is because you want to know what comes next.

In summary this game adds nothing new to the genre and is just too boring for older (more sophisticated?) game players. The graphics are OK and the sounds very good at scaring you but again, we've seen it all before.
