Colony Wars (PS) ... struggle between the League of Free Worlds and the despotic Colonial Navy and of the hope that one day peace will be restored. This is the conflict gamers will enter into with Psygnosis' latest spaceship simulation, Colony Wars. Colony Wars is a two-disc set of missions whose narrative sequence changes based on battles won and lost. Once you learn the basic six-degree control of your League fighter and sit through a mission briefing, you're ready to embark upon a League-appointed sortie, defending a cargo ship against a swarm of enemy fighters, or perhaps destroying a critical space vehicle on the other team's side. Missions differ in theme, but their successful completion often involves the same pattern of following your wing commander's orders to blast this or that ship.

Colony Wars is a space flight simulator that take space in the far future. You play an unnamed starfighter pilot, fighting with the league of free worlds against the evil earth empire and its colonial navy. So it is a bit like star wars in the respect. I first played this game in 1997, when I also bought G-Police, and it is made by the same development company psygnosis. But I have to say that whilst there are graphic similarities, G Police is better then this game. Plot and Gameplay Colony wars was one of the first games to include a multi tiered plot line system. Depending on how well you perform in the game, you get a different ending, of which there ... Read the complete review

Colony Wars might as well have been called Star Wars given the similarities of the two plots. Both involve a rebel faction fighting the odds against an oppresive regime. The disadvantage that Colony wars has is that you can't fulfill that X-Wing piloting fantasy. It's not a major disadvantage though, there's a lot in this game to recommend it. The first distinct feature is the aspect of branching gameplay. Rather than one linear ride through the game there are a number of courses to take resulting in different endings. Fail a mission and it might not mean game over, but later missions will be different and the direction of the war has changed. This ... Read the complete review

I have seen in many other reviews that many people seem to be comparing Colony wars on The Playstation to star wars on the Pc, well I have never played any Star Wars games on the PC so this review will be an honest opinion on Colony wars from a person who didn't buy just because it was similar to another game. The game is a flight combat game set in space, there are a series of missions that must be accomplished in order to complete the game but if you fail a mission then it is not game over it is just a slight alteration to the storyline. The storyline is that there is the Navy, it is an empire that extends outwards from earth draining the ... Read the complete review

This has to be one of the best space combat games, apart from the others in the series. The game introduces great visuals, a nice storyline and brilliant gameplay. The game offers a large amount of space craft for you to control, and other craft including motherships, fraters and cruisers. There are 18 weapons for you to discover and use against the earth empire including earths own craft and weapons. The game includes a database of planets, solar systems, ships and other stuff, which emerses you in the great storyline and helps everything seem that little bit more real. Controls are easy to master and you can tweek your skills with ... Read the complete review

This is essentially a space shoot 'em up, but the difference here is the many different routes you can take through the game, the outcome of your previous battle being your deciding factor here. The action is tense and well crafted, there is no noticeable slowdown when you are blasting away with missiles and lasers at multiple targets, the HUD of your craft is well set out, and the FMV sequences inbetween the major scenarios are some of the better ones produced for the Playstation. If you don't have a space shooter in you collection then this would be a good addition. ... Read the complete review
