Counter-Strike or 'CS' as it's called by fans is the most popular multi-player game around! There are 2 versions of the game.

The first is the MOD version. This version can be downloaded free from the net, but this version requires that you have Half-Life installed to play.

The second version is the retail version. This version can be brought from shops and it's standalone, which means Half-Life is not needed to play.

Both versions are the same so it don't matter which one you get!

The game of CS has two teams, the terriosts and the counter-terriosts. Both teams have different weapons and mission goals.

The best feature of the game is the choice of weapons you can have. There are a wide-range of sub-machine guns, sniper rifles etc. All of the weapons are great fun to use. The guns also have realistic recoil which means that firing a machine gun on full auto will probably do nothing but get you killed, firing in busts in the key to get a high frag count.

Counter-Strike has some of the best sound effects that I've ever seen in a FPS, the weapons sounds are very realistic and the atmosphere the sound creates is amazing.

There are also other items that you can get such as 'nades, flashbangs, bomb defuse kits etc.

There are a lot of well made maps incleded and there are lots more floating around the internet as well. There are 3 different types of map in CS, Hostage Rescue, Assination, and bomd plant/defuse.

In hostage rescue maps the Counter-Terriosts (CT's) have to rescuse the hostages and take them to safey while the Terriosts (T's) have to stop them.

In assination maps the CT's have to excort a VIP to a safety zone on the other side of the map while the T's have to kill him. This is my favourate type of map to play.

The last maps type is Bomb plant/defuse. In this game type the T's have to plant a bomb and the CT's hav
e to stop them and defuse the bomb if its been planted.

All of the maps in CS are very detailed and are set in realest settings like oil-rigs, and in buildings. The difference been the maps is great! They range from snow and ice to desert conditions.

This game is great when everyone plays as a team and it's not as fun when the players just go off and don't work together.

There is one thing you should be warned about though. There are quite a few cheaters out there who spoil the game for everyone.

Overall this game is great and over time the patches will stop the cheaters.
