Creatures 3 - Control the evolution and learning of life forms called Norns in a unique life simulation game by Creature Labs.
I opened up this game with pretty much the sole purpose to review it, I picked it up cheaply, and forgot about it until now. The moment i started, i got hooked on this game.
The creatures you control are not merely scripted animations, they are, in a sense of the world, ALIVE. They learn, by connecting paths in their "Brains" which are actually neural nets, and can learn as a person would.
Without a doubt, these are the cleverest artificial beings i have ever come across, but, its not without its drawbacks. they require almost constant care in the beginning, you have to feed them, teach them languages, and make sure they are in perfect health. Eventually they do learn how to do it themselves, but it does get repetitive.
The graphics look nice, and are taken from a 2D, side on perspective, and the graphics look just right for a game about guiding "cute" creatures, and are easy on the eyes.
The sound is a bit cute, with cute sounding "whooshes" for doors, and little yips from the Norns.
Did i mention you are on a gigantic, living spaceship? Because you are, and due to this you have a large repository of medical and gene-splicing equipment, and i had a lot of fun splicing creatures together to create new breeds, and strange Norn/Grendel crossovers (Grendels are a vicious race of creatures, beyond the scope of this review.)
In conclusion i would recommend buying this game, although, its more a toy. A very advanced toy.
It will keep you hooked, and i give it 2 thumbs up!
Summary: This game is well worth buying, if you fancy yourself as a gene scientist.
