Premium Review Cricket 2000 (PS): The Brian Lara of Cricket Games (285 words)
by - written on 26/06/00 (Very useful, 49 readings)
Rating:

EA SPORTS have taken their interactive broadcasting style to new heights. Even for a die hard cricket fan like myself, playing this game is better than watching the real thing live on TV! It features amazing 3D graphics, highly detailed motion captured players, play by play commentary by the legendary Richie Benaud and David Gower, multiple camera angles (including "stump cam"), amazingly realistic 3D interantional stadium models, and just about anything else you can think of (and more) that puts you in the game. England team members Adam Hollioake, and his brother Ben Hollioake, were used in extensive motion capture sessions, with over 550 accurate ...  Read the complete review

I am a huge fan of cricket and I spotted this game that EA had produced. I had already bought the previous game Brian Lara Cricket which I enjoyed immensely and had a lot of pleasure playing so I thought that this would be the same. How wrong could I have been the game was nothing like the previous with it having no detail and just being boring. You come to choose what you want to play and unlike the previous you could not choose to play a test match which I felt was the best part of the game but instead you could go into a World Cup or you could go straight into the latter stages of the World Cup called the super sixes as well as playing a friendly or a quick ...  Read the complete review

Having recently bought FIFA 2000 - an excellent game i was very disappointed by this product! - the graphics were poor but more importantly you did not feel as if you were playing the game. The controls were difficult to follow and i still after a small amount of perseverence i do not feel i have got the hang of the game. i do not recommend this product, whether it is a fault of cricket simulators like this in general or of this particular product i do not know but i would really advise you to shop around before buying this product. a great disappointment - and a waste of money. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not a patch on Brian Lara (187 words)
by - written on 31/05/00 (Very useful, 33 readings)

EA Sports are famed for their stylish game intros, and for getting the "enhancements" right. In FIFA, this means the commentary, the music, the player names etc. In Cricket 2000, you get the soothing tones of Richie Benaud and the ladyboy tones of David Gower, the stadiums are beautifully rendered, and the players look the part. But the gameplay is pants. Bowling is far easier here than with Brian Lara, as the bowling circle doesn't move unless you move it. You can't move the fielders around, and the wicket celebrations are pathetic. There's no slower ball as well. If bowling is easy, perversely EA have made batting very difficult. ...  Read the complete review

Cricket 2000 (PS): dickie bird? (206 words)

Brian Lara Cricket reflects the ancient game of cricket perfectly, basically you will either love it or hate it. It does have a host of loveable features though. Codemasters has done a wonderful job with the motion capture of the cricketers and some of it is the best we've ever seen on the PlayStation. Every movement is perfect, right down to the umpires tossing the coin. How well they do it! The game itself actually looks like a pitch of real men fighting it out for the ashes. It's just a shame that when they run around the shadowing gives the impression they are hovering a couple of inches off the floor. To add even more realism to the proceedings ...  Read the complete review
