Destruction Derby 2 (PS)

Destruction Derby 2 is a great game. The graphics are good and it is very addictive. The idea of getting to smash cars up to such an extent rather than driving (relatively) sensibly around a race course is very appealing! This builds on the success and popularity of Destruction Dervy 1 with new features. Have fun trying to escape the bedlam (yeah right!) or alternatively try to set your engine on fire by smashing headlong into a car at 90 mph. The point of the game is to score as many points in possible in each race by smashing up other cars (the most fun) and by finishing in a respectable position in the race. I have left the review untouched but have placed an update at the end to cover any changes since it was written. *** Looking at the quality of racing games currently available it's hard to believe my racing addiction started in the early 80's with Enduro Racer on the Atari VCS. A red square represented the car (complete with 4 little black squares for the wheels) and the racing consisted of moving that square left or right in order to stay within the white lines. Destruction Derby 2 is a great driving game. It is a very unusual type of game, and different to any other type od driving game available, on any format. This sequel has much better graphics and handling than the original, and is really good fun. The idea is to cause as much destruction as possible, by ramming your vehicle into others with as mush force as possible. The more you do this, the more points you get. You also get points for doing things such as 90 degree turns etc. There are loads of different tracks, game modes, cars etc, and multiplayer is supported. Destruction derby 2 is the long awaited sequel to destruction derby. Like the 1st game you have two options, to race against other cars but to be aware of the damage to your car or two battle against all the other cars in a fight to the death the winner is the last one standing. Like most racing games you have a choice of cars and skill settings. The game does offer a 2-player mode but only one can race at a time. Destruction Derby has always been a great game for all ages, but the third version, beats all of the rest! Since it doesn’t include any wrestling, except with the steering, the chief mystery is what they’ve called it. Destruction Derby RAW. DD RAW really does get off to a good start with a front end that makes choosing a car and the tracks fun! After that you have to score the required points in each race, through a combination of bashing into other peoples cars, and finishing in the top half-dozen places.
