Dune 2000 on the Playstation is a huge letdown in my opinion – after playing all of the Command and Conquer games on the PC I really thought that this Westwood Studios game would be good on Playstation, if not better than the C&C games that are so popular. So why isn’t it good? I don’t think they ported it all that well if you ask me – it is also a PC game, but never really hit the big time due to a lack of promotion.

Despite my disappointments of the game, I will try and describe what happens in it! You have to pick one of three houses – either the Blue ‘Eagle’ Atreides, the Red ‘Bull’ Harkonnen or the Green ‘snake’ house Ordos. Then you have to collect a lot of spice to get money and buy items like tanks and new construction tools – it’s not very interesting at all.

The game starts off with a very shaky video sequence – maybe the Playstation cannot handle it that well (so why was it ported?) with a woman telling you that she’s seen you die many times, and the rest is, as they say, history. I have never managed to get past level 4 because the game’s controls are so poor that I don’t have enough time to get anywhere! Maybe I should invest in a Playstation mouse – do they have one? The graphics are poor compared to games in the same genre, and the loading times are atrocious!

I thought that this would be something special, it isn’t it may well have been made by Westwood, but it isn’t in the same class as C&C!

Poor Playstation game, maybe that’s why no one else has reviewed it!
