Fear Effect (PS) ... difficulty, Fear Effect is an innovative cinematic adventure that serious gamers won't want to miss. Set in a dark, futuristic world, Fear Effect has players switching back and forth between its three anime-style protagonists. With a story that's filled with plot twists and heaps of what the Entertainment Software Rating Board finds offensive, this is far from kiddie fare.Easily one of the most visually striking PlayStation titles, Fear Effect shines with Japanese-animation-inspired 3-D character graphics and full-motion-video environments that allow for nearly seamless transitions between story sequences and gameplay. With the exception of restoring saves and changing CDs, there's virtually no game interruption.Unfortunately, it's very easy to die in Fear Effect, which not only wrecks the game's pacing, but can be really quite maddening.

I found that the lack of control over the characters, such as an endless search in screen for the save command to appear, was so exasperating that I eventually had no inclination at all to unravel the adventure. When I finally decided to add another console to my beloved N64 I opted for the original Playstation rather than save up for a next-generation alternative. There were already a staggering number of action/adventure games available on the system, yet Fear Effect was not one that immediately sprung to mind. I first considered a purchase of the aforementioned game when I began to read about a sequel that was currently in the works and I was instantly transfixed with the anime "look" of the game, combined with positive feedback concerning the plot development and that this game was actually a prequel to the original. The game was enticing, that's all I can say. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fear Effect (PS): Scary Stuff! (327 words)

Overview: This game is set in the future in Hong Kong, you are a bounty hunter (of sorts) and you have been hired to find a girl, the plot thickens, the girl is not what she seems and all hell breaks loose!. Game Play: The game play is fantastic, not too easy not too hard. This game has a nice balance of mental challenges and pure action, theres loads of weapons on offer, which you collect as you go along (after youve killed the person weilding it!). One great thing about this game is the way your not one character all the way through, you swap between the three characters on the picture there, super, i loved this. I never got bored of this game, ...  Read the complete review

In theory you would think ‘Fear Effect’ on the playstation would be a very compelling game, especially considering it is a game produced by Eidos, the makers of ‘Tomb raider’. For, you control three mercenaries, Hana, Glas and Deke, who conspire to track down a young runaway and ransom her off to her father, Mr. Lam – the powerful Triad leader in Hong Kong. Yet, in reality although the game boasts a storyline of lively plots and twists, the frustrating controls and awkward game play does not back up the epic storyline. Premium Review Fear Effect (PS): It just get weirder and weider............... (182 words)

Ok. This is pretty attractive when you first hear about the cool graphics Gameplay: Very easy at points but the level of difficulty increases. The storyline seems understandable, but only just. You get a good selection of weapons, the puzzles aren't too hard to figure out, and it's pretty gruesome at points Graphics: Good advanced graphics where you are within an FMV scenario but I would prefer it if it was made Resident Evil like graphics. The characters are well drawn in a chinese style and it appears that the best friends/main characters soon starts killing each other. The woman is pretty sexy and she takes her clothes off at times but ...  Read the complete review
