Although there have been many soccer simulations since on various consoles, I really like Fifa 2001 and at the time of it's release for the Playstation I think this was one of the best soccer games to date. There are so many great things about this version from the graphics to the gameplay.

In the game itself there are huge amount of teams to select and play as which is fantastic. You can choose one of your favourite teams to play as no matter what country or league they belong to. When you go to select your team you are given the team's stats and it informs you of their attributes, whether that be offensive or defensive and the overall stats for that team. It can be quite challening, and something I like doing when I got a bit better, is to select the worst team and try to win with them.

There are also a wide array of play options for this game. You can begin a season with any team and try to lead them to the championship. In addtion, if you like, you can compete in a tournament and various cup competitions.

You have practice or training modes to play in as well. You are able to work on skills you need like corner kicks, free kicks or penalties, all of which you will need in a real game.

One of the things I particularly like about this version is the realistic replay option. So if you do score a wonder goal in a game you can go back and relive it time and again from different angles and different speeds. This is a great feature.

As stated the graphics are fantastic and add realism to the game in a big way. The crowd are great and cheer or boo their home players as in real life at a match. The players characteristics are very realistic as you can see when they are annoyed or happy during the game. The sound effects really help with the game realism as well from the tackles and player collisions and also players kicking the ball.

The game is almost at times like watching a game on TV and is a great addition to the FIFA series.
