Advantages: This game is perfect
Disadvantages: I said, this game is perfect
The planet is in danger. Globalisation is at its peak as corporation ‘Shinra.Inc’ absorbs life from the earth to fund repressive state apparatuses such as the military. Greed swallows the characters who are involved with Shinra like the Mako reactors swallow the source of all nature. The population must rely upon the Ancients.
The Ancients are chosen ones with divine powers, and like their cosmic surroundings, they thrive upon this life source. Their powers have been used to contain those who threaten the planet in the past, but underhand dealings of various weaponary once again challenge the extent to which good can restrain evil.
You begin as the deranged mercenary ‘Cloud’. Your past is a little hazy, and is only further manipulated as you continue your journey. Any knowlegde of your entire world is toyed with, as you form bonds with other characters who may or may not have been involved in your life previously. You were part of a Shinra-owned force known as Soldier, but that is about the limit of your current self-conscious. You now know of the horrific consequences of Shinra’s lifestyle and form an ever-growing rebel alliance against your former employers; (much like a teen boycotting McDonalds after losing their part-time job and watching supersize me)
I would not like to ruin any details of this adventure for anyone, but from thereon you embark upon a mission versus corporate greed, battling terrifying beasts formed from the varying radiation, and creating relationships with many others who share you’re lifestyle. Your situation with them evolves as you chose your speech with them and share your stories, getting to know and care for others as they assist you with your quest. Whether you chose to believe them is then up to you.
It was the sheer beauty of this adventure that engulfed me until I began skiving work and college, and my hands formed small playstation symbols of their own. The soundtrack was so elegant that I could associate the music with situations in my everyday life, and soon I bought the soundtrack for my ipod, including more than 80 different tracks and their orchestral equivalent. It was this backdrop, along with the beautiful FMV displays that brought me into the game, and the magnificent character relationships and evolution that compelled me to play until the end. There are almost unlimited side missions, hundreds of hidden extras, and thousands of items that can be combined to enhance your gaming experience. The final 3 fights were the greatest of my gaming life; promising, challeging, and eventful. Perfect.
I usually write reviews for games/movies/music that I like. That way I can tell others how they themsleves can experience this enjoyment in great detail. Also, on a few occasions I do like to move to the dark side and linguistically tear apart an item of media that I did not like. Either loving or hating a media element gives you ammunition to go online and express your emotion about it to others, who will in turn tell others and usually have an impact upon the success of the item….But never, ever, ever have I experienced such an overwhelming sensation from one single video game. Final Fantasy VII completed my gaming life.
There are people out there who will just think I am a loser with nothing better to do than play video games and then move to a different computer to tell people what I think of them. And fair play to you, I do sound like a pathetic poet with that last paragraph. But please, please, if there is even an ounce of gamer in you, or you have a heart of passion and imagination for adventure then Play This Game!
Summary: The freedom/adventure of Zelda plus an untimely lifespan. Gaming perfection.

I played the PC version, and was rather under-whelmed by it all to be honest. |
