Advantages: Incredible story, soundtrack and gameplay.

Disadvantages: Now slightly dated.

I will start off by saying that this is not only the best final fantasy game but it is the best video game of all time in my honest opinion.
I can understand that most final fantasy fans will disagree with me but I have a theory that the first final fanatsy game you play is your favourite, because the majority of people first played final fantasy VII as it was the first on the playstation and that game is usually most popular.
Final Fantasy IX was the first final fantasy I played and it simply amazed me and it still does today. This game simply gives me the best memories of gaming I have. The plot, characters, graphics and soundtrack combined make for an incredible gaming experience, although this statement isnt as appropriate now as it was when the game was first released.
Final Fantasy IX has a story that simply engrosses you from start to finish. It is very well thought out and is very deep especially when you start researching different themes from the game in the real world.
The soundtrack creates the most atmospheric of sounds that suits each location in the game I even bought the soundtrack which I use for meditation.
The graphics for the time were the best without a doubt.
Each character has a backing story that makes you connect to them.
The gameplay is also the most simple out of the final fantasy games. And there are so many enjoyable minigames.
Overall I would recommend this game to anyone and everyone, It should be experienced by all, its like an amazing book, movie and game rolled into one. Amazing.
