Advantages: Great graphics and challenging
Disadvantages: Can take a long time to complete
I used to play Frogger years ago on my old PC so when this was released on the Playstation I had to get it. In this Playstation version Frogger is back and better than ever before. It's alot harder than the original Frogger and there is alot more to complete with many more unique and new levels to try.
The plot of the story is pretty simple really. It's about a frog called Frogger. In each different level there are baby frogs that Frogger has to try and save. Each level is a puzzle in itself to solve and you have an allotted amount of time to finish each one. Some levels can be extremely hard to the point where you think they are impossible, but you have to keep persevering.
The very first level is the original level that everyone might remember if you ever played this game when you were younger. You are stuck on one side of the highway and have to make it across lines of traffic and then to a river where you have to dodge alligators and logs to get to the baby frogs on te other side. However, from there it gets tough.
Frogger has three different abilities that you can use to your advantage. He can jump and gain extra height by using the square button. He uses his tongue to eat bugs which can give you extra time or points. Plus, he can also make a 'ribbit' sound and if any baby frogs are nearby they will respond to him with the same noise. This becomes crucial in later levels.
The varying levels appear as blocks in a line and in each block there are five different levels. These increase in difficulty as you continue on. The hard part is that in some levels you don't have much time to find the baby frogs. The interesting part of the game is that there are so many unique levels to play ranging from sky levels to running to avoid cars and then being chased by spiders for example through their web.
One advanatage in the game is that when you find a baby frog you get to start the level over from the beginning with your full time. This is very much needed. Also, when you run out of lives you can just start at where you were. Every time you beat a level the memory card automatically saves the data so you can access your game anytime. As well as playing in story mode you can also play a mode where you can access and play the first stage of any themed block.
Despite being a basic game there is alot to complete and the game has great replay value due to the challenging nature of it more than anything else. I was captivated for long periods with the puzzles and the graphics are pretty decent too.
Summary: Overall if you love Frogger then you'll love this
