Advantages: Simple, user friendly and great co-op mode
Disadvantages: Very addictive, looks primitive but graphics aren't important
You are cop. In the future.
You mobilise a futuristic crime-fighting vehicle that changes from a destructive, gun-toting machine on two legs into a hovering patrol car suitable for escaping quickly and avoiding mines. Just see what you think of that before you read on.
The one player mode is a little short of an adventure. The entire idea of the game is very exploratory, as you burn your way through many industrial/futuristic city-like levels with multiple entertaining weapons, finding switches and items, rescuing hostages and basically annihilating anything that comes across your path. Although its original appeal is addictive, your best bet is finding someone to play it with.
The two player modes make for hours of repetitive fun.
Precinct Assault pits you against one another. You aim to accommodate the most "land" possible by destroying your opponent/their army and constructing your own little safehouse upon your newfound land. The points you earn by taking land and killing enemies are used to build your assisting army, whether it's tanks to fight or mounted guns to defend, you find yourself becoming somewhat posessive.
Crime War seems a little more satisfying, and is for those with a slightly lower competitive side. You fight together to defeat the cpu enemy (with a rather scary and intimidating voice) as he aims to either destroy you or enter your base. This aspect of the game is intense fun, and as you increase the difficulty, you put your teamwork to the test.
Future Cop LAPD is a simple, cheap shoot 'em up with great multiplayer longevity. Is it worth the money? I would think so, as nowadays you should not expect to pay more than £10 for it. Give it a shot, if you have someone to play it with.
Summary: Play with a friend

- 29/05/06 Ah I remember playing a demo of this for ages back in something like 1998 and I absolutely loved it, but never managed to get the full game. I think it's quite rare these days - its £25 on amazon's marketplace. :) tom |
