Advantages: Graphics, fast paced, BIG game
Disadvantages: doesn't save lap-times
Gran Turismo 2 is the sequel to the best selling "Gran Turismo". As you would expect, the gameplay has not been overhauled, but simply improved along with the graphics and the number of cars you can get. GT2 has 33 manufacturers and 500 cars, all of these cars being real cars. The makers of this game have gone to extreme lengths to make sure that engines sound like they should do on each car, getting the shape of the car just right and so on, making it feel just like you are driving that particular car. A new special feature has also been added to this game: Rally mode. This is similar to the gameplay of Colin McRae rally, in which you have to control your car around mud and gravel tracks, either against your own time (ghost car included) or an opponent to win more money in GT mode. There is a good thing about the licences, if you own the first game and you have all the licences on that, then these can be carried over to this game so you don't have to do them all over again, which I think is a great idea. As in the first game, you have to buy a rubbish car at the start, win a few races with this, upgrade it, do some more and so on, making sure that there is virtually unlimited gameplay to it. You can race in leagues, tournaments or even special events which are for one particular make of car, so if you have a Ford ka, say, then you can compete in the manufacturers special race only for Ford Ka's. This is true for most makes of car. Although it must be said, the game had been rushed out to get it on the shelves, and so there are a few little niggles with it. Including the fact that it does not save your lap times on the arcade mode and the redraw distance on some of the new tracks is pretty poor. But overall, this game is a must-buy for any Playstation owner, the graphics are great, the gameplay is superb and it has some good music tracks too.
