GTA 2 (PS)

This is the second game in the Grand Theft Auto series and it was the first one that I played. It looks very different from the later 3D games due to a top down view. The graphics look fine but it is an old game. I use the keyboard as my main control method and its easy to move, drive and shoot. The driving is especially fun especially when you get a good police chase going. There isn't exactly a story mode, basically in each level (there are 3) there are a number of gangs, if you do jobs for these gangs you get money and you become more popular with them if you are popular with one gang the other gangs will shoot you. The GTA games have been around for quite a number of years now. They just keep being the same though but with just new titles and even then they are kinda the same titles. I guess that is to trick you into buying the game. Every console out there tends to have them made for them. I am a fan myself and will play them and liked the ones made recently. Lets find out if the older ones made are better or worse than the new ones. A nice opening sequence gives hints as to how to avoid detection. The Training Mission is a good idea and helps draw you into the product. While top-down 2D is now old hat, it is well done and the buildings are particularly well done. Font color choices and differentiating between tiny foot soldiers and pedestrian is not. There is a nice use of the radio in the different cars to create different moods. All the appropriate car tire squeals and cop sirens are present. There are lots of mission styles from bank robbing and rubbing out opponents to simple pick-ups and drop-offs. Control suffers from strange interfaces that hamper many of the missions.
