Advantages: Fun game, good graphics for the time, follows the book well

Disadvantages: Old, PlayStation One is hardly used now

Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone on PlayStation is the first Harry Potter game produced, being the first book in the series as well. The game has reasonable graphics considering it was released 8 years ago and the game is actually pretty good as well considering it's age and the console it was produced for.

In Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone, you play the character of Harry Potter, the main character in the books. You begin in the Entrance Hall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the school that Harry Potter goes to, and you then speak to the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. After doing this, you're free to roam the school. Most of the doors are locked, though, so you can't really do a lot.

You soon meet Hermione Granger, Ronald Weasley and Draco Malfoy, three of the other main characters. You make friends with Hermione and Ron and soon learn that Draco is your enemy. You then go to lessons and the story begins to unfold from there.

You get to learn how to cast spells, make potions, use magical equipment and speak to portraits to get extra items for the game. You also collect jelly beans and give them to Fred and George (Ron's twin brothers) for information, items or passwords needed throguhout the game.

You collect points for your house (Gryffindor) and try to lose points from the other houses (Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin) to make Gryffindor the best house out of the lot.

There are secret passageways that you can go down if you find the entrances and exits and from there you can collect chocolate frog cards and extra jelly beans which is very useful for you in the game.

You're able to save the game quite frquently, although you can't save in the middle of any of the tasks Harry is set or unless you're given the option to. This is represented by a floating book with some stars around it, showing "Save" if you walk up to it and press the square button on your controller.

When you go to load a game the next time, it'll tell you how long you've spent on the game and how much of the game you've completed which I always found to be a useful feature of the game because it's nice to know how quickly you've completed all the tasks so far.

This game is great fun to play and I would definately recommend it to anyone that has a PlayStation One still because it's such a good game. It is also available on computer and gameboy as well if you don't have PlayStation One still.

Summary: Great game!
