... badly drawn and badly animated enemies learn how you prefer to attack and change their tactics accordingly, but even then they only have three attack modes. Walk in towards you, crawl in towards you or jump in towards you. The only way they can get any where near you is by having lots and lots of them come pouring into the scren meaning that your weapon cannot cope with the numbers. And this is all that happens throughout the game. Lots of enemies come in and you shoot them before going into the next screen and shooti...more

Heart of Darkness (PS): A step back... (501 words)

This game is a couple of years old now, and even when it was released it was a stp back graphics wise. The gameplay that reviews screamed were the best ever failed to raise its head and disappointment abounded. The game is trying to be similar to Abe's Oddessey but comes no-where near on any count. The background graphics are weaker, character animation poor and the gameplay is nowhere near as good. Where Abe has 3D modelled characters, HoD relys on hand-drawn sprite style characters, where the movements are mapped by drawing each frame individually, making it appear like a cartoon. The animation here is good with no 'jumps' between different moves ...  Read the complete review

This game again proves that you don’t need incredible in-game graphics to be successful. The graphics on the videos are excellent, and the gameplay makes up for any lack in in-game graphics. You play as a young boy who has lost his dog. You need to get past many evil monsters and traps to find our dog. I think this game is definitely good value for money, and I haven’t found a similar game, which means Heart of Darkness is original. Addictiveness? Brilliant. Lastability? Brilliant. Heart of Darkness is better than it looks and if you like any roleplay or adventure games you should give it a try. ...  Read the complete review

Heart of Darkness (PS): Not Original But Worth Checking Out, Anyway (100 words)

In development since before the PlayStation was even released, 'Heart of Darkness' emerged as a playable, nice looking 2D platformer. The game is not original in the slightest but seems to be quite good at what it does. I would say that it is worth checking out, at least. The game combines some good colours with graphics and although in 2-dimensions, they are quite effective. Unfortunately, the game could have had a more memorable storyline as it is certainly not the kind of thing which will keep you playing for long periods of time. ...  Read the complete review

Heart of Darkness is better than it looks and if you like any roleplay or adventure games you should give it a try. Although now quite an old game its still very fresh every time I revisit it - buy it. ...  Read the complete review

Heart of Darkness (PS): Holding your thoughts in your heart (169 words)

Heart of Darkness looks like a simple platform game, but it's much more cleverly designed than most platform games I've ever come across. There are puzzles, of a sort, which you have to solve, and if you die in the same place too many times it gives you a hint as to what to do. And the graphics are stunning - or at least they were at the time. They're quite impressive, though, even by today's standards. The really amazing thing is that the game had a production time of 6 years, and they got a 300-piece orchestra to do the music. And the learning curve works really well, so that you get just enough time to master the first few techniques before you move ...  Read the complete review
