The main point of the game is to succesfully place 1st in all of the games cups (tournaments), doing so will unlock further tracks in the game. Cars are unlocked by finding hidden car objects in each of the tracks.
The AI is fairly average, may challenge you at first, but after a bit of practice, you shouldn't have much trouble outrunning them...more

Don't be put off by the name, you may see Hot Wheels and think this is just a cheap game that they've put together to promote their brand. Well it isn't far from the truth, however the game has more to offer than what you might imagine. For a start there are several tracks, about 15-20 I think. There is also a very large amount of cars, especially for an N64 game, about 30-40 cars, each having their own individual statistics.
