Advantages: Cool concept, nice voice acting, original.

Disadvantages: Quite dated.

Jade Cocoon is an RPG that revolves around capturing monsters, merging them and using these monsters in order to progress through the storyline. The storyline revolves around trying to save you're village from destruction at the hands of a mysterious evil force.

Jade Cocoon is quite similair to Pokemon in many aspects, especially pokemon colleseum. The player or his monsters must fight of against groups of enemy monsters using abilities and moves that can be aquired along the way. The monsters have different attributes and the players have to combine them and fight them accordingly in order to get the most effective results. The system of merging two monsters together is a really cool idea, and even today it is extremely original. Different characteristics are passed on down the line as monsters are mixed over and over again, getting stronger (and looking stranger) as the game continues. The storyline is perhaps a bit weak, as is the exploration aspect of the game, but nevertheless the gameplay is to a high standard.

The graphics and sound are very dated, and are nothing compared to some of the modern consoles that are out today, but they are a very high standard compared to other PSX games. There is also a good amount of voice acting featured in the game that is to a high standard.

Overall this is a very good title, and it is considerably better than it's sequel Jade Cocoon 2. Also it is very cheap, with copies selling for around £5-10. The dated graphics and sound are more than made up for by the great gameplay, and for that reason I highly recommend getting this game.

Summary: Worth a buy, should be able to find a cheap copy online.
