Advantages: Fun, Great multiplayer

Disadvantages: Some glitches which can get annoying

Dredd Vs Death really ought to be a great game. Dredd is devoted to extreme violence. The problem is that the game, like the movie before it, lets 2000AD's iconic lawman down. It doesn't misfire by much, though, and can be genuinely exciting. However despite the neat mix of saphire and ultraviolence, there are just too many faults for Dredd vs Death to be considered anything other than another also-ran in the continuing race for the next great FPS on PS2.

Anyone with more than a passing knowledge of of first person shooters will find Dredd familiar. Move him around with the left-anologue stick, aim with the right, and look - there's a weapon sticking out the bottom-right corner of the TV screen. But Dredd vs Death differs in the details. While the secondary weapons you gather are much as you's expect - the machine gun, sniper rifle, shotgun, etc. - the lawgiver pistol, dredd's primary weapon is unique.

More than just a pistol, the lawgiver fires up to six different rounds of ammunition, varying from standard automatic rounds to specialist shots such as incendiary, armour-piercing rockets, high-explosive and homing. This means that from the very start tactical decisions need to be made to make the most of the vast options on offer.

Despite everything Dredd is a lawman. You have to obey the rules and incinerating civilians because they look at you funny is a tad extreme, even for Dredd. The measure of how much you've broken the law is represented by an on-screen meter, best described as a Mega-city. Like the "wanted" stars you aquire in GTA.

With a simple button you are able to call out a gruff warning for people to surrend. If they do you clamp the cuffs on them and a suitably ludicrous sentence appears on the screen. Alternatively if they decide to fight on, simply kill enough of their friends or prise the weapom from their hands and they'll be likely to have second thoughts. Such fludity in t

he reactions of your enemies is definitely the most intresting thing Dredd brings to the table.

The story mode in the game is short but there are many other things in the game to get your head stuck into (kinda like timesplitters). There are ten multiplayer games available including last-man-standing, escort, raid and deathmatch options.

Comment:

Drudd versus death is arguably better as a collection of mini games and multiplayer modes rather than a one player big story mode type game. i think that it is still good but does lack quite alot in the story mode 4/5
