Advantages: Quite Addictive!
Disadvantages: Gets boring and repetative!
Another review of a classic Playstation one game! This time it’s Kurushi Final.
Kurushi Final was released on the Playstation one way back in ’97. I first got playing this game through a sample of the game on a demo disc, however I quickly completed the demo and after about the 20th time of completing the demo I was bored! However recently I found this game sitting in the Pre-Owned section of our local branch of Game and with a low price of just £4.97 it was a bargain not to be missed, so I got it.
Upon getting home I immediately set the game up and started playing… that was me addicted all over again!
*** What Is Kurushi About? ***
Kurushi is a strange game really! You are a little man standing on a platform with a load of giant blocks coming towards you. As the blocks tumble along you must select a square by standing on it and pressing the X button, then as the blocks tumble onto the square you just selected you must press the X button again to activate the block and get rid of it. You continue to do this until all the blocks have gone. Sounds Simple? Not really… you must only get rid of the light grey and the green blocks. If you demolish a black block then a row will be taken off your platform and you will have less time to clear your blocks! You must let only the black blocks fall off the edge of the platform. Grey and green blocks falling off will also cost you a row off your platform!
If you clear a grey block this will take away that one block, if you clear a green block this will leave a green marker which can then be activated to clear surrounding blocks a lot quicker, however you must make sure that there are no black blocks in the area covered by the green marker!
Once you have cleared the first lot of blocks heading for you, another load will come your way and you must do the same again and again and again! When you have done it 4 times then you will be judged on your performance, awarded the relevant points and move to the next stage, which is pretty much the same as the last except you have more blocks to play with!
The game continues like this until you die or complete the game. Upon death or completion you have an IQ score calculated for you. This can be quite insulting as the game is reasonably complicated to pick up in the first place! It’s fun though! I found myself getting quite addicted just for the fact you were given an IQ score at the end!
*** How Playable Is This Game? ***
Kurushi Final is a reasonably playable game. I found myself getting quite addicted, but at the same time I was getting quite bored of it! The game is addictive in the sense that you want to do better each time and you get a cool IQ score at the end, however it is quite boring as it is really the same thing all the way through, this gets really repetitive and you start to feel like you are going slightly crazy!
*** What Do You Get For Your Money? ***
For the £4.97 I paid for this game I got a disc with the game on, an instruction booklet which is about as helpful as an instruction book can be… it tells me about the game and the controls! And I got a nice little Playstation Game case to keep them in!
*** Was It Worth It? ***
I would say that this game was worth the money I paid for it. I have got an addictive game which I enjoy playing, however I will be limiting myself to play as once I reach the boredom stage if I don’t stop I feel like I’m going mad!
This game is a game you would probably enjoy more if you played it in small doses every now and again! It certainly isn’t one you could sit in front of for hours on end!
*** Any Other Info? ***
Yep… The game is suitable for ages 3 and up. But I doubt that in reality a 3 year old would enjoy or even know how to play this game! I struggle at 22!
The game is also for one or two players so you can challenge your mate to Kurushi you!
Thanks for reading!
Summary: Very addictive but gets boring quite quick!

- 20/09/05 Sounds like it's quite a bit of fun but would quickly become rather aggravating. It's probably also almost as addictive as tetris? |
