My only Role Playing Game (RPG) experience on the Playstation has been the excellent Final Fantasy series, however my opinion of the series is subjective as I have only other FF games to compare with. Therefore, I searched for a similar game to compare against. Having played Sony?s excellent Ico, I felt justified in expecting a very good RPG from Sony and thus I purchased Legend of the Dragoon. While playing LOD I tried my absolute best, not to compare this game to FF7 (or any other RPG for that matter). If I had compared it to another game, its guarenteed I may not have liked it as much. Luckily I managed to focus on the game and the game only. All I can is... WOW!!! This game definatlely lived up to its hype. Of course there are the usual ups and downs which all RPG's face, lickily, the downs are very minor and the ups are consitant. Not many sidequests compared to other RPG's, but the involving storyline will keep any RPG veteran (and newcomer) busy for hours. i have to say that LOD has one of the most twisted plots ever written. As a casual gamer an RPG has to be pretty special to impress me and furthermore keep me coming back to my PSX again and again to waste even more of my valuable leisure time. To date only the Final Fantasy series has managed to achieve this. So Legend of the Dragoon was up against formidable competition and a particular customer. The game comes on four disks, so it’s obviously big - four chapters to be precise. Each of which could have been released by a lesser publisher as a game in it’s own right.
