Advantages: great graphics, great gameplay, great sound and music
Disadvantages: none!!
While playing LOD I tried my absolute best, not to compare this game to FF7 (or any other RPG for that matter). If I had compared it to another game, its guarenteed I may not have liked it as much. Luckily I managed to focus on the game and the game only. All I can is... WOW!!! This game definatlely lived up to its hype. Of course there are the usual ups and downs which all RPG's face, lickily, the downs are very minor and the ups are consitant. Not many sidequests compared to other RPG's, but the involving storyline will keep any RPG veteran (and newcomer) busy for hours. i have to say that LOD has one of the most twisted plots ever written. The game starts off with the ever so familiar "save the girl, save the world" storyline which at first may only seem moderately apealing. Then... out of nowhere... twist upon twist upon twist suddenly jumps into the plot and your once simple task escalates to a higher level of intrigue. To enhance this ever so delightful RPG is a new and innovating battle system in which moves are triggered through your fingers reflexes. Many of your once easily executed sword techniques are now accessed by the completion of a combo. High Points: - New additions system very addictive - Dragoons magic, Dragon summons, and air combos - Side Quests well thought out with an actual "point" to them. - Awsome CG movies - Memorable characters - Breathtaking theme song during end credits Low Point, writting this part hurts... but I've tried to be honest so you wont get any surprizes: - Lack of freedom on the world map - Limited Dragoon usage during battles (all depends on you D'Lv) - Numerious translation and spelling errors in dialogue, ex "Flerry of Styx"/"Flurry of Styx": spelt two different ways, the first way while in battle, the second way while in additions menu. (sorry, I know thats kind of
>picky, its only an example) - No magic outside of Drgoon mode, execpt for some items which require you to bash your controller in order to deal a satisfactory amount of damage. - Terrible voice overs during cinema scenes (lip sinc and sounds are off, kinda like one of Jackie Chan's early films) From the detailed backgrounds to the eye-poping cinema scenes. LOD has taken advantage of this day and ages technology in order to prove Squarsofts superiority when it comes to making good quality RPG's. While exploring the many locations of Serdio, Mille Seasu, Gloriana, etc. try to take the time to stop playing and examine your characters surroundings on the screen. You'd be quite impressed with all the tiny details which were casually slipped in to the world of LOD. The most memorable moment of Disc one, in terms of graphics, was not only the beginning scene. Through your grand escape from Hellena Prison, you cross through a forest in which you must cross a river. Well it is this river which caught my eye! I couldnt get over the fact of how real the water looked. It just goes to show you the time and effort that was put into this games creation. But the highlight of the game for me, in terms of graphics, would still have to be the end cinema in which Squarsoft goes "all out" in order to show you the playstations capabilities and boundaries. The three year wait may have seemed long for those of us who have been curious about LOD since the first preview shown. With its "Giganto" team of over 100 members and its "Giganto" team of many determined animators. LOD has shaped up to be one of my "Top Five RPG Picks"! Dont rent it, buy it! You wont be dissapointed! Although many of the same songs were used a couple of times for different places throughout the game, this didnt seem to bother me due to the fact that the songs were very enjoyable unlike some of the RPG's I
39;ve played in which the same annoying song is played over and over and over again. Each tune placed in its apropriate location throughout the game. Key songs pointed to times of peril wile others stimulated joyful occasions. And... the main battle theme was not annoying unlike other game battle these which you eventually grow to loathe entirely. Amongst the many great musical scores, I still cant get over how well written and well played the final song of the game was (theme during the credits). Every now and then I sometimes like to go back and kick Melbu Fahma's butt just so I can here that song because... well... I cant get enough of it! I just cant! While some of you may find the repeated use of a song annoying, others (like me, a die hard RPG fan) will simply respect the sounds which we are given. For me, there are no low points in terms of sound. The music presented is both appropriate for the games situations yet lively enough to keep you humming along. This game is really good so just go and buy it believe me you will be impressed!!!
