Advantages: It's the best shoot em up I've played
Disadvantages: I wish there were more missions
This is pretty much what I've been waiting for all my life. A chance to go and strike a blow against the godless Hun and his French collaborator friends. The graphics and sound are pretty much as you'd expect on a Playstation, but to be honest I'm not really too bothered that the people don't look terribly realistic when you get close to them. It's one of the most compelling games I've ever played, and these little details don't detract from the over all experience. I've never seen the original, so I don't know how much of this version is new. My favourite thing about this game is that it borrows elements from all my favourite war movies in some of the missions. You get chased around a small French town by tanks (Kelly's Heroes), you get to sabotage a cable car to invade a castle (Where Eagles Dare), you get to blow up big guns on a Mediterranean island (Guns of Navarone) and so on. The game is also very atmospeheric. Playing certain levels alone, late at night, unnerved me in a way nothing has since I played Quake for the first time. Especially Himmler's castle, with its suits of armour that come to life. The levels are, with a couple of exceptions, difficult enough that you'll have to try them several times before getting through, leaving a real sense of satisfation when you finally do. I suppose that, technically, the game is in poor taste, as the second world war wasn't really the knockabout romp that you get here, but I'm afraid the game is just so enjoyable that I can easily ignore any qualms I might have had. Especially since it obviously isn't realistic (you'll meet knights in armour, dancing dogs and clockwork robot soldiers in the last missions). The only gripe is that the multi-player version isn't nearly as good as the one in Goldeneye, and only two can play. Play this game. It's the closest you'll ever get to being Richard
Burton and Clint Eastwood.
