I have to say that I don't follow Ice Hockey at all, I wouldn't even know where to find, although im assuming Channel 5 probably shows it. Even though i've got no love for it, the first time I played NHL 94 for the SEGA Megadrive I was completley hooked, the way you skate around so smoothly and the high pace action really is tremendous fun. So with NHL 2001 I was very pleased, the game is obviously an Ice Hockey game with different options from exhibitions to leagues to a tournament or the career type mode where you play a Season. First of all let me give you some background - I love Ice Hockey and I'm a big NY Rangers fan. Now although this gives me added insight into playing the game it also gives me a bit more knowledge to criticise this game - which is difficult. This is arguably the best team sports game I have ever played. It is realistic, it has all the players and you can change the game settings to suit your own capabilities. Unlike a lot of games where you choose beginner, pro or expert level and that is it, NHL 2001 allows you to set the game speed, the harshness of the ref's, the likelihood of fights, whether you want to control your lines, the camera position, ... Ok. I'm not exactly one of those people who likes to sit around all day and play on computer games. However, since the discoveries of Championship Manager and NHL 2001...i have no excuses. I currently own a version for the playstation but hope to purchase it for the PS2 as soon as i get one. This game is extrememly good. I'm not just saying this because i like ice-hockey and of course play it...for the neutral gamer...it is most defineitely a must buy!
