Advantages: Original. Cool for a while.

Disadvantages: Short. Easy. Can't play it for long before you get bored.

Parappa the Rarappa is a fresh, funny game. One that started a whole new genre - music creation. Music 2000, that Dolphin undersea game, Bust-a-Groove...they all came out afterwards, inspired by this little game.

Being a first generation PS game, Parappa's graphics aren't that good. Characters are flat but bend to move, which kinda looks cool. Backgrounds and props are both flat and 3D. But graphics aren't important. The words in the game, some hilarious, feature more.

All you have to do is press buttons in time with words appearing on the screen. This makes you 'rap' the song. Do it well with little mistakes and you go on to the next level. Else, you must do it again (losing lives). Replay the level and do VERY well, then you can do it freestyle. Progress through the six levels (with training level) and you complete the game. Between the levels are FMV cutscenes. The strange Japanese creation inlcudes Sunny Funny, a sunflower, and Master Onion, an Onion-shaped human with a Japanese voice. The words are sung with animations, which are usually funny.

Unfortunately, even in the most difficult game modes it is all over too quickly. There are only six levels and they are all easy. The graphics are quite bad and play gets boring after dying a few times. Despite some cool secrets, this game is pretty average - especially compared to its 'sequel' Um Jammer Lammy.
