Ridge Racer Revolution is like Galaga '88 to Ridge Racer's Galaxian (their respective loading sequence games!) in that the game is more a revision than it is a revolution. With the new circuit comes three courses, and although the initial four cars appears to be the same, there have been tweaks to their stats so that the starting line-up is stronger, thus there's not such a need to unlock some cars. Again, those who can muster manual gears get the most out of the cars! The racing itself has been fine-tuned. It's smoother, it feels slightly speedier, and it seems like they've worked on the collision detection, so it's more solid. Also, the internal view is ... Read the complete review

When I first bought a playstation this was one of the games that I received free with the console. At the time of purchase I had never been on a console as powerful as the Playstation and the graphics were brilliant, although now they just aren't! The game itself is fun to play. Its very easy to get started with no complex controls for the cars that you can drive. You can play on a number of different tracks although not many, they are very limited. Once you complete the tracks you will be able to play the same tracks but in reverse. The handling of the cars depends on the car statistics. Control of all cars is unrealistic but quite easy to get to ... Read the complete review

Okay, Ridge Racer Revolution is getting on a bit these days, but way back in 1996 this was among the best arcade racers on the PlayStation. Essentially just a re-make of the original Ridge Racer, this featured a brand new circuit (branched in to three tracks, and raced in reverse later on - so six tracks in all), a few new unlockable cars and some nicer graphics. Oh, and you could play a level of the classic arcade shoot 'em up Galaxian's while it loaded! The chief problem with Revolution was the lifespan - a veteran of the first game could probably finish it with a couple of days, and though there were now ultra-fast devil and angel cars to beat, these ... The Ridge Racer games have been coming out ever since the Playstation one came out. They just seem to get made all the time. The thing is though they are always usually just the same with just another extra one or two cars or an extra track in the new games. Lets see how this game is. As always these games tend to have the same tracks in them. They may look different but really only have maybe an extra bend in the track to trick you into thinking they have a bunch of new tracks. Or they might let you play old tracks but in the darkness this time. You just tend to go through Ridge Racer city all the time in this game. The cars again are poor with them ... Namco released Ridge Racer as a launch title for the PSX and there's little doubt that at that time is was something that was a revolution for racing games at the time, however the same cannot be said for it's follow up "Ridge Racer Revolution" . The problem here is that with a few years between the two titles, many other companies had brought out some solid racing games that overtook Ridge Racer. What Namco done was basically put out very similar title to the first, it didn't have that many cars to choose from and unfortuanltey it's longevity was badly hurt by how little number of tracks there were availible to play. Sure you had exhbition and ... Read the complete review
