Advantages: Decent crazy - golf mini - game, authentic music and voices
Disadvantages: Average mini - games, clumsy camera and controls
*A review of Rugrats - Search For Reptar.*
So the pieces of the Reptar Puzzle are missing, and Tommy vows to find them - even if it means having to search the whole wide world (or at least the whole house). Do I smell adventure? Or has someone... okay, maybe I don't want to know.
Whilst the graphics are not great, the Rugrats characters, and even home, are recognisable from the series. Similarly, the music, authentic voices and jagged episode header splash as loading screen help create the feel of the cartoon. I'm not too fond of the use of commentary.
In the main mode, the house works as a central hub with some items allowing access to a mini-game. As expected these mini-games are not difficult to complete, but they're not as straightforward as they seem. The controls are not as responsive as they should be, and character movement is compounded by a really rubbish camera, resulting in much walking into walls.
My favourite mini-game is the Ice Cream Mountain - a crazy golf game which can be played with four players under Activities. The rest were average at best. You play as several of the Rugrats babies throughout the game (not that it makes a real difference) with Angelica as friend and foe, like in the series.
The last level feels pointless, but as Reptar you can take it out on the THQ building - serves them right for giving the green light on this game! If I wanted to be harsh, then a bonus game should not last longer than the level (or mini-game in this case).
Rugrats: Search for Reptar will take an hour or two to complete. Replay value is not too bad, since finishing the game may not mean that all the mini-games have been completed, though some of these are similar.
Of course, I could pass it on as being one for the kids, but sorry - children deserve better. This is an average title let down by clumsy camera and controls.
