Advantages: fun, laugh
Disadvantages: easy, easy , easy
Serious Sam has spent the last few months in the Internet spotlight. Developers and gamers alike have shouted its praises from the rooftop, and the review sites have been buzzing. “ Brings back the gameplay of doom!” shouts one, “Back to basics software!” calls out another. Good is not the first word that springs to my mind. There is no real plot to this game making it not very exciting, But while playing this game think Stargate. Except the shooting of aliens in Egypt, and AI-bereft foes that would have made doctor who laugh with derision. IN fairness, the action moves along at a fair clip, and the weapons pack a decent enough punch – but the constant run and gun action gets old extremely quickly. Or at least it would do, were Serious Sam not so woefully short. On normal difficulty, a good player could finish the lot in an afternoon. One level consists of nothing more than running in a straight line while enemies charge at you and even the bigger ones plunge you into an arena after arena until you die, or make it to the exit. It’s not like Doom. Doom had atmosphere, depth, satisfying combat and genuine scares. Serious Sam is seriously vacant. Excellent 3D engine, though.
