Advantages: Fair variety, difference in player characters, flexibility for 2 players

Disadvantages: Average in most departments, no memory card support

Skiing. 5 courses, 4 different player characters (with a choice of outfit) and 11 pairs of skis make up a fair mix.

But there's no memory card support! Only a single ghost is temporarily stored. On Alpen Mode, topping the Best Time and Action Point in the Ranking table for all courses needs be done in a single playing session (this will take a couple of hours). And to think then the unlockables for game completion cannot be saved! (Oh, and spot the spelling error at the credits.)

In the only other mode, Versus allows two players (no computer A.I in this game) to simultaneously take to the slopes - whether to compete against each other for Best Time/Action Point/both or to top their individual Ranking table, it is without reward. During play, both players can switch the split-screen between vertical and horizontal by pressing Select!

The skiiers see to okay animation, and despite the onlookers the surroundings are lifeless. Slight pop-up present, and on replay sometimes the polygons are poorly placed. As for audio, the limited sound effects are amusing - one (male) voice to fit all, and as well as that the "oh my god!" as you fall out. The music can be bland, but I have favourites in BGM 3 (or audio track 4) and the theme for the credits - the former peaking at the cool guitar solo.

Controls-wise, analog control support would have been nice as the button layout means much work at the d-pad (cannot customise controls to counter it), but they do the job. The skiing itself is rather average - collisions can be far from realistic, and it's not too advanced - connecting aerial manoeuvres and landing successfully being not too complicated.

An average game that's short of significant features for support.
