Advantages: He can do anything a spider can!
Disadvantages: Except go down the plughole!
I recently got this game from Amazon with my ill gotten Dooyoo miles and those hours at the keyboard were not spent in vain. The game is essentially a platform game but with a 3-d enviroment which lets you roam about freely. You play the web clad hero, carrying out various missions around New York. The game is set in the 'classic' Marvel comics era and although Spidey is married to Mary Jane none of the current events in the comics are touched upon-so there's no black costume, clone etc. The game won me over as soon as I booted it up as they've kept that great tune from the 1970's cartoon, you know "Spiderman!Spiderman!/he can do anything a spider can..."Classic!.I was a bit disappointed that you don't get an opening movie, only a "press start" screen, but this was churlish as the game is stuffed with video clips. The main game takes the form of various episodes each introduced by a screen showing an original comic cover detailing the action to follow. The gameplay is original and fluid but the swinging and direction changes take a bit of getting used to and if you fall it's game over ,no extra lifes here!. The missions begin with a bank raid but a plot involving a spider imposter and the kidnapping of Mary Jane keeps things ticking over nicely. Most of the time you fight henchmen but the level bosses are the familiar cavalcade of villians such as Venom and Mysterio.Cut scenes also involve other Marvel heroes such as my favs Daredevil and the Punisher. I've only played the game on normal difficulty and it is'nt too hard once you've mastered the controls.Settings also include easy and hard and a special "kid mode" means this can be fun for all. The game also has loads of options to keep the comics fan and normal person amused alike. My favourite is the "comic collection" these are 32 real comics scattered around the levels. If you pick one up yo
u can view the cover and read why it's a significant issue.Profiles of all the protaganists are also given with a commentary by Stan Lee,Marvel's founder, himself!. Training levels are also given and Spidey maintains his wise cracking personality throughout.Clearly a lot of care and attention to detail have gone into this gem and it's the best superhero game since Horice goes skiing!Check it out.
