Advantages: Great graphics, improved gameplay, and fun storyline
Disadvantages: Hmm, this game could take up too much of your time.
Yes, this game surely improves over its predecessor, in ways more then one.
1.) Graphics: wow, these have improved amazingly! No more jagged edges, explosions looking like the ships just shattered, and the amount of space eye candy improved.
Zooming in to ships reveals detailed textures and lighting, with windows lit up, and as your ships are hit with phasers and torpedoes, you see the lighting flicker, and large holes open up in the hull, revealing the internal structure of the ship.
2.) Gameplay: Before, a few scouts could entirely wipe out a base, but now, things are balanced. Send in 50 scouts, and they're no longer going to destroy the entire base. In fact, they're going to be entirely destroyed without the enemy being scratched, at all.
The game feels overall more balanced, and the missions are fun and not too hard/easy.
The weapons have been evened out, and larger ships can easily destroy smaller ships, unlikely before, where they were almost the same.
Different races have different stats and abilities, which contributes to a better, and funner game.
3.) Sound: Way better than the original, the sound adds depth and really draws you into the game, making you feel part of the fleet. With 3D sound and the effects being perfectly set up with realistic sounds, it really adds to the experience.
4.) Conclusion: Yep, this game is well worth buying, and is a fun and worthy addition to anyones star trek and Real time strategy game collections.
Summary: 2 thumbs up. This game is awesome.
