Advantages: It's Star Trek, The sides are ballanced, good sound, good audio
Disadvantages: Learning curve is irregular, Missions are too long, can get repetetive
Star Trek Armada II: Star Trek Armada but better. This game is actually one of the better Star Trek games out there. Once you watch the wikkid intro (which is split into two parts-The one that gives you the storyline and one with different battle sequences which is very cool) You are greeted with the main screen (all options if you hover the mouse over then have their own animations), the options are: Instant Action Campaign Multiplayer Options Replay intro Credits Exit All of these are self-explanatory, so it's easy to choose what to do. Let's start with Instant Action. You choose a map, a race (Klingon, Federation, Cardassion, Borg, Species 8472 and Rumulan) Number of opponents and go go go! You have all technoligies availible to you, and it's a fight to the death, or a team match. This (aprt from multiplayer) is the most fun aspect of the game. Massing about 8 Borg Fusion Cubes and then wiping out everyone else, has to be tried to be believed. It's so amusing to see a load of Federation ships (about 60 I had on me once) and see them all fall to the mighty fleet of Fusion Cubes, which only lost 3/4 of one cube's health. Resistance is certainly futile! Anyway, On to Campaigns. There are three (Federation, Klingon and Borg), but only the Federation campaign, being the easiest, is available at the beginning. The levels (missions) are all extremely long, even the first Federation one. Once you finish the Federation Campaign, you open up the Klingon Campaign. and then the Borg Campaign. Multiplayer is the most fun aspect of the game, being great fun, and also being satisfying when you know you have just beaten another human. It is bassicaly Instant Action, but with humans. The Graphics are pretty nice, with explosions, torpedos and phasers all looking particularly nice. The Ships and stations aren't half bad either. The Sound is also pretty good wit
h all the soundfx you'd expect in a Star Trek game. Torpedoes etc. Overall a good game, which is helped by a strong Multiplayer option.

- 13/05/02 I love star trek, and the good games are brilliant. I'd like to know more about what you personally thought of it, and how things like saving your missions work. There is nothing worse than one like Bridge Commander which only saves when it wants to, with long gaps where you have to redo tedious things when you've had to dash out to the shop to buy some milk before it shuts or something and not been able to save! |
