Advantages: Superb visuals and excellent use of lighting.
Disadvantages: Single player 'conquest mode' campaign limited
Starfleet Command II is truly a fantastic game to play, especially if you play human opponents in the multi-player mode or on the net.I've busted several opponents and it get really exciting in each play. It boasts excellent graphics, an interesting story, and presents lots of strategy options without sacrificing action.
As it turns out, this game is quite demanding in several term. If you check the graphics on the back of the box to figure out that if you have the minimum specs the game will run like a snail. But as my specs already at its peak from the time I played it, the only slowdown I have ever got was once in an unusually massive battle. Apart from that I have no slowdown, and my graphics settings pumped up to max. But if you're specs is at the P4 level, then you won't encounter any problem at all...
The game focuses in on you and no one else, being a starship captain for your chosen race, and progressing through the missions and storylines whilst getting bigger ships as you do. From a third person perspective of your vessel you use the mouse to click where you want your ship to head towards, and assign targets when they appear. Essentially it's a RTS game in space, where instead of moving lots of units from above, you guide your ship side-on.There are many ways to play in SFC2.
For the lone single player you a have campaign and skirmish matches, and for people with more social skills you have a thing called 'multi-player mode' or skirmish matches in multiplayer. The single player campaign is essentially a series of special missions for your selected race that tell the story. In fact I haven't been so engrossed in a RTS single player campaign for such a long time it felt a little odd to actually be enjoying going through and exploring the missions, rather than just playing random skirmish matches only..
Summary: Really, a very nice game to play...
