Having been a fan of Street fighter since the second version was first released in the arcade I have a fondness for the series and i have owned every version of the game that have been released for the home consoles (except Super Street Fighter 2 X on the 3DO anyone have one of them???). In my mind the best conversion has to be the one on the PC engine, it was amazing followed by this PSX version. I cannot believe that Capcom have managed to convert Street Fighter Alpha 3 onto the Playstation. Although there are frames of animation missing etc. it is as good a job as they could have done and i am thoroughly pleased with it. To any Playstation owners who love 2D ... Read the complete review

Looking through the budget games in the Virgin Megastore, I happened across Street Fighter Alpha 3, and remembering fond days on the SNES and in the sea side arcades frantically hitting buttons I decided to invest ten quid on it. I wasn’t let down. It isn’t the original Street Fighter, it’s one of the many offshoots of Street Fighter, but it moves back to the original style of play after forays into the world of the 3D beat-em up. Yes it’s 2D and doesn’t exactly test the Playstation’s graphics capabilities to any extent at all, but the graphics are chunky and cartoony. The graphics have been made more like an anime cartoon ... 2D it may be, but monstrous move complexity, a dazzling array of classic Capcom characters and unmatched fighting fury makes this a gaming grandad that's still years from the grave. I believe that this game is the best 2D brawler there is! Although the graphics are only 2-dimensional, they are very good graphics! The colours and structures of objects around are extremely good. This game is the kind of game which would hit the top-selling games list if it became created in 3-dimensions... Perhaps this is the sign of things to come...??!! One to try!!!! ... This is the ultimate Street Fighter yet with so many extra options and more single player fun with World Tour. The number of characters is staggering (32) but it won't take long to find favourites and forget about the majority. SFA3 also adds "fighting styles" in X-ism, A-ism and V-ism. These determine what moves your chosen character has in battle, ranging from old style with no air blocks, reversals or escapes to newer style with all of the above and 3 super combos or custom combos. This adds variety and is a very nice feature where to of the same character can be totally different. Other options are World Tour (win experience and customise your ... Read the complete review

The Streetfighter franchise has been massive since 1987 and with the Alpha series Capcom perfected the 2D beat-em-up genre. The cartoony graphics were brilliant and 3 level super bar was pure genius and I would go so far to say that Streetfighter Alpha 2 in my opinion is the best 2D fighter ever made. Streetfighter Alpha 3 though is where it all went wrong, it isn't such a bad game but they put so much pointless things into it. The announcer for example just makes you want to play it with mute on, I got tired of hearing 'Go for broke' or 'Face it straight', they changed the way that throws are performed which made it so you had to aim to perform a throw rather ...
