Advantages: game speed, graphics

Disadvantages: repetitive

There are a lot of beat-um-ups on the playstation but Tekken wipes the floor with all of them. There are three Tekken?s out but the third one is a lot better than the earlier editions due to the improved graphics, speed and the fact that there are more modes to choose from to make the game last that bit longer.

There are numerous modes to choose from. Arcade mode is where you pick a character and go through about 12 stages and at the end you get rewarded with a new character or mode. VS mode where you play against your friend or against the computer in one match. Team Battle mode is a mode when you pick up to a maximum of eight characters and battle against the computer or you can play against your friend. Survival mode where you see how many matches you can win before you get beaten. The best new added mode has to be the Tekken Force mode where you go around beating various characters in streets. Practice mode where you can experiment with a character against a dummy. There is a secret mode called Tekken Ball which is basically volley-ball but to hit the ball over the net you have to perform an attack.

There is a large range of old and new characters from humans to ogres and devils to pick from. They all use different fighting techniques from wrestling to break dancing. You can still get them in their different costumes by pressing certain buttons. Every character has his or her own stage based on what nationality they are or what type of fighting type use. Every character has special moves that they can do and there are different combos to perform. Each player also has their own individual throw.

The game has been improved and the game generally runs a lot smoother than the old Tekken?s. The players do not look as blocky as they did before . The speed of the game is now a lot faster which makes it more enjoyable. Nothing gets on my nerves more than a slow fighting game. The backgrounds of the levels have been improved with more detai
l.

As you complete the arcade mode you get to watch a short but sweet movie of the character you just completed it with. When the players are in some way linked to each other, the movies will refer to the each other. You can also re-watch these movies in theatre mode.

The music that plays in the background of the battles is mediocre but you never really pay any attention to it because you are simply trying to beat your opponent. The music for the movies is good. The sound effects go very well with the movements of your character.

When you play, it does get a bit repetitive and sometimes frustrating when you are unable to defeat your opponent. But you will also seem to find yourself coming back to this game when friends are over and you want a bit of a laugh.

If you have a playstation but you do not own this game I suggest you go and get it or if you have the playstation 2 then I recommend that you go and get Tekken Tag Tournament as Namco keep on the developing the Tekken series. The game also makes a good competitive game to play against your friends.

Tekken volleyball sounds bizarre, but the game itself seems to be fun.
