The technical troublings of Tenchu did not go unnoticed to its makers thus it was tweaked so that its release outside of Japan - to be titled, 'Tenchu: Stealth Assassins' - would be worth the wait. Tenchu took stealth gaming to new heights, literally - with the grappling hook you can reach for those rooftops. But beware falling into the pits of frustration. To avoid detection from the enemies, there's a stealth button for sneaking about, and along with the gift of the second sight - or is that the third-person view (ha!), a sixth sense in the shape of the Ki meter allows players to know the proximity of a presence as well as their awareness. Whilst ... Read the complete review

When it comes to the word ‘Ninja’, there are two stereotype images. One is the bouncing off walls, somersaulting while taking out hordes of enemies with a handful of shirukens image, while the other is the more sinister, sneaking in the shadows and killing with surgical precision image. When it comes to videogames, the former is well represented in titles like the Revenge of Shinobi for the Megadrive, Ninja Gaiden for the NES and such. But the latter has been a much more rare, or you could say stealthier, beast to track down in the gaming world. Activision changed all this in the late 90s, with the release of their game Tenchu: Stealth Assassins. Tenchu was ... Read the complete review

Tenchu is a game that I would consider as a classic if only for being one of the first stealth games on the playstation. I have to own up now to not actually owning the game, so imagine my pleasure at having a lodger with some games I enjoy playing. Tenchu is definitely one of those games, since it was bought second hand it seems that I have played it more than he has so I thought I would write an opinion on it. A plus on the game being bought second hand is the fact that I found some cheat codes written into the game manual. I've played the game without using these cheats and then went on to try the same 'missions' again using them and although they are ... Read the complete review

This is one of the few Playstation games that I've ever really enjoyed enough to want to play until I finshed it. This is my favourite type of game - a series of missions that you have to complete, gradually leading you to a final confrontation with a recurring enemy. Each mission is hard enough that you'll have a few problems getting through, but nothing is so difficult that you'll throw up your hands in disgust and walk off muttering. You can choose to be one of two ninjas in medieval Japan. (Well, obviously you can be both of them, but not at the same time.) You've got Rikimaru, a male ninja, or Ayame, a female ninja. They're almost the ... Read the complete review

Before I talk about the game, some question for you to ask yourself: 1. Are you patient? 2. Dooyoo like atmospheric games that require a bit of thought rather than just running around killing anything and everything that moves? 3. Dooyoo like sneaking around in the dark, hiding in shadows and generally avoiding being detected by those around you? If you answered yes to all of these questions then Tenchu: Stealth Assassins is definitely worth a look. And if you answered yes to question 3, don't admit it in public (it will only scare people). In this game you take control of one of too shadowy assassins, either Ayame, female ninja who ... Read the complete review
