Crowned Review Tomb Raider 2 (PS): Lara - The Dagger Hunter And A Tomb Raider 2! (1242 words)
by - written on 08/01/07 (Very useful, 139 readings)
Rating:

Tomb Raider II is one of several titles that I played over at a friend's house then bought for myself. I remember playing it for the first time, where the game begins with Lara, the game's (female) protagonist, sliding down some slopes into a cavern. I hadn't experienced any of these 3D adventure games then, so the controls were an obstacle for me to overcome. It was clear that I had to climb up and out of the initial area, and to do that, I had to get a grasp of the controls, which I eventually did and I felt satisfied. That was only just the beginning. The game sees Lara in a search for the Dagger of Xian, an artifact which grants the power of a dragon to ...  Read the complete review

GRAPHICS: Tomb Raider was a revolutionary game. It deserves nothing less than a perfect score, even if there are glitches and a few misfires in detail. Tomb Raider 2, unfortunately, is not the revolutionary game its predecessor was. Undeniably, however, it is a stunning game. Lara looks fantastic, her curves are well defined (not that I err… look at them), and she actually has a pony tail, which has by now become many a man’s object of fascination, as well as new costumes. The backgrounds are often more breathtaking than the original’s, especially when staring about from precipices, and overall the 3-D environments do show endeavor from the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tomb Raider 2 (PS): More of the same... (539 words)

With the success of the first game a sequel was inevitable and it wasn't too long before one appeared on the market. The imaginatively named Tomb Raider 2 continues the adventures of Lara Croft, this time in the hunt for an ancient Chinese dagger which can give immortality to the person who stabs their heart with it. Not that Lara wants to stab her heart with it, she just thinks it'll look good above her mantle piece. Unfortunately for Lara there's a power crazed bad guy after the dagger too, and he does want to plunge it into his heart. So plot's the usual sort of thing, but gameplay is expanded a little over the previous game. All of Lara's ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dooyoo like Lara too? (307 words)

Rating:

The astounding success of the original Tomb Raider Classic meant that fans would turn up to purchase the sequel in their millions irrelevant of whether the game was actually any good. Many in the business were interested to see what Core would produce - a money spinner, or another action/adventure classic. Tomb Raider 2 follows the general pattern of exploration/puzzle interceded occasionally by bouts of fierce combat with the local wildlife. The differences between the game and its predecessor are apparant, but fairly minor. Human enemies form a much larger part of the anti-Lara faction. Wolves and crocodiles have pretty much give way to street thugs and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tomb Raider 2 (PS): JUMP, SHOOT. Great Fun. (233 words)
by - written on 13/12/00 (Very useful, 28 readings)
Rating:

Tomb Raider II follows on from the success of Tomb Raider I. The plot is lacking and the concept is very original. The game doesn't have a very good storyline, it is just a mixture of lever pulling, knob cranking, button pushing and sporadic pointless shooting. The graphics are ok but it is occasionaly quirky. Not exactly everybody's cup of tea. It is an improvement on Tomb Raider I (graphics and gameplay) but thats not exactly saying much. This game isnt bad if you like pointless, unrealistic violence where it takes 10 blasts of a shotgun to kill a rabid monkey?! Lovely Lara is definitely a major plus point! If you get stuck at any point during the game there is not ...  Read the complete review
