Premium Review Vib-Ribbon (PS): A Bit Too Simple (1234 words)

We've all seen those funky pink dance studio games you can buy for your daughters, who will attempt to improve their dancing skills to attain the high scores, or your sons, who will soon tire of the girlie dancing aspect and use a broom operated from the sofa simply to knock their sister off the high score slot. Vib Ribbon is not one of these games, although you'd expect it to be from all the rambling I just did, and is instead controlled by buttons on the Playstation joypad. Unlike some of my friends, one in particular, I don't have the unnatural capacity to be the King of every game I play, or the desire to play that many. I often wonder what it is about ...  Read the complete review

Recently, a new game came out for the Playstation. Well, actually, quite a few games have recently come out for the PS. However, I am talking about only one of them. Vib Ribbon. Vib Ribbon is a rythm based game costing only £15, which uses your CD collection and is voxel-based. (If you don’t know what voxels are, imagine wireframe graphics. Flat shapes which can be manipuleted in 3D – like polygons but not forming a 3D model.) You control a rabbit skipping along a ribbon. Occasionally – in time with the background music – a shape may appear, of which there are four. Basically, the objective of the game is to press the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Vib-Ribbon (PS): Vib Ribbon - an honest review (312 words)

Vib Ribbon is a music game with a difference. Unlike previous 'beat' titles like Parappa the Rapper, Vib Ribbon takes a more basic approach. You control a sort of cartoon rabbit (rendered entirely out of black and white vector graphics) and have to negotiate a 'ribbon' floating in space in time to the music. As the music progresses, shapes are generated on the ribbon depending on the sounds currently being played. Vibri can negotiate these shapes by hitting the right combinations of keys at the right times. This might sound pretty simple, but it most certainly isn't! Six tracks are included, but the main selling point of this game is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Irrelevant Graphics (424 words)

Vib Ribbon, some may complain, has poor graphics. This is irrelevant. Vib Ribbon is a game where you control Vibri the rabbit, as she skips along her line. The controlling you do is telling her how to avoid obstacles that get in her way along the route. There are four obstacles that she has to avoid and they are a square, a hole, a jagged ditch and a loop. The four obstacles means you need four buttons to control the game, down, X, L1and R1. You have to press the right button just as she gets to the obstacle or she avoids it wrongly. If you avoid to many obstacles wrongly she will de-evolve into a frog, and then a worm. If you do well she will turn into ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Vib-Ribbon (PS): Ribbin' it large (671 words)

From the makers of Parappa the Rapper and Um Jamma Lammy comes a game which ... well, it's the same, and at the same time it's not. It's the same because it's music based. It's the same because you have to hit buttons at certain times to do well, and failing to do so means you're doing badly. It's not the same because, well, it's a little bit pants. Unlike in the two masterpieces of paper-thing characterisation already mentioned, there is no repetition in Vib Ribbon. You're not shown a set of symbols, which you then have to repeat, you're just shown a line along which come shapes representing the ...  Read the complete review
