Advantages: very good , graphic

Disadvantages: no

When the Playstation was first released years ago, WipeOut was there, showcasing the incredible new graphic power of the system. While not exactly lacking in the features department, the previous two WipeOut games didn't have an abundance of game modes. WipeOut 3 definitely improves upon that aspect, as it now includes the standard Single, Tournament, and Time Trial, as well as the additions of Challenges (weapons, time, and race), and the Eliminator, a marathon fight to the death. Challenges are a nice way to get away from monotonous races and focus in on specific goals, like finishing in the top 3, completion of a track in a certain amount of time, and the most fun, destroying a fixed number of opponents. The game starts off at an extremely easy pace in the first round, but once you hit the second it's like hitting a brick wall: the game gets unbelievably hard. Unlike the the first games in the series, this one has seemingly ditched the concept of a learning curve, which is a very bad thing. After continuously trying to complete certain curcuits and repeatedly failing, it gets very easy to lose interest in the game.
The series has always controlled well, and WipeOut 3 is significantly better thanks to the implementation of Dual Shock analog controls. A plethora of weapons is also present, from old favorites like rockets, missiles, auto-pilot, and mines, to new things like energy drain, cloak, and the destructive plasma bolts. Among the new craft power features is the instant speed boost which can be activated as long as you have enough power in your shield energy by simply pressing R1.
Graphically, I have some mixed feelings about WipeOut 3. Sure, it looks great, running in high resolution and at a silky smooth frame rate, but there is still a bit of graininess present. Track and ship designs are both well thought out and very futuristic, creating the perfect atmosphere. Did I mention that the game is 100% free of pop-up, draw-in, and clipping? Mos
t of the textures are a little dull and pixilated, but since the game moves fast, and I mean really fast, you'll never notice. The return of the Designers Republic to do the logos, menus, team logos, intro, and overall look of the game was a very good decision on the part of the development team to really capture that futuristic feel.
The trademark techno soundtrack is back and in full force. Well known UK DJ Sasha has been appointed to mix the tracks, and they are great. Explosions rock and other weapons have cool sounding effects, as do the ships' low bass rumble.
Much work and care was put into the game, and it shows. The addition of new crafts, tracks, and a new graphics engine that really pushes the Playstation to the max make this, in my opinion, the best game of the series and one of the best racers ever on the PS.In My opinion fans of the series will love this game, as should newcomers.

Buy It!
