Advantages: Great physics, good for new or old players
Disadvantages: Not great graphics outside of the table.
This game is probably the only reason I still own a Playstation. I bought it years and years ago when I was at uni and it turned into a classic student game for me and some friends!
The Concept
-----------------
Well it is a snooker simulation. Simple as that. It gives you various tournament options and allows you to take a player through a career.
The Graphics
-----------------
The graphics are quite good for a Playstation game, sure the player models are a little androgenous and largely differentiated by the colour of their shirts and hair, but lets face it - who buys a snooker game for the quality of the player graphics. The balls and table are well rendered and make it easy to see what's going on.
The Challenge
------------------
For me Codemasters got teh level of challenge spot on. the game is easy to pick up and play but difficult to master (I am still waiting for my first 147 break!). The computer controlled opponents vary from the largely woeful to rather adept and offer challenge for players at any level.
The Gameplay
------------------
Use the D-Pad to aim, set the power and spin and hit a button to strike. Much like real snooker the application of skills is easy, it is the when and where to use them that provides the challenge.
Multiplayer is for me what brings this game alive. Nothing better after a few beers than realxing with a friend over a hotly contested frame or two.
Overall this game exceeded my expectations and even years later it is still the best snopoker simulation that I have played. Sure it doesn't have the whistles and bells that some offer, but realistic physics and a pick up and play feel make it the best.
Summary: The best simulation of snooker I have found.
