Advantages: Easy to learn, Light hearted multi player concept

Disadvantages: Simple graphics

I was playing Worms for the first time in ages yesterday so I thought I would have a look to see what other people thought of it. I couldn't believe there has only been one opinion written on it so here I am doubling that single handedly!

I love this game for its simplicity and often hilarious results. Each player has a team of four worms, which you can name (a little thing but a nice touch), and each worm starts off with 100 points worth of life. The object of the game is to try to obliterate everyone elses worms, by gradually taking points off them, until there is only one team (usually with just the one worm) left standing. There are several weapons to choose from including homing missiles (very effective), bazookas (erratic at the best of times and very influenced by the wind), cluster bombs (often suicidal if not thrown far enough) and dynamite (hilarious as the attacking worm sniggers to itself as it runs away).

Crates containing extra weapons are dropped every now and again and these can contain banana bombs which explode scattering bananas everywhere, which in turn explode taking large parts of the screen with them. There's nothing fancy about the graphics but obviously you need to be able to see a reasonable portion of the landscape at once to be able to see where the other worms are hiding. The worms themselves are very small but the game works well anyway. The bigger the TV the better really.

I like to play this game with a few friends after an evening at the pub when your judgement is a little off. Perhaps the most amusing things happen when you get it wrong. One tip I would give, especially for the beginner, is to switch off the time limit for a move to be made. This defaults to 60 seconds which isn't very long when you have no idea how to work the weapons.

Overall its an easy game to grasp and the worms are so cute you forget all about the underlying violence of blowing each other up. Unfortuna
tely I've heard far too many worms utter the fatal words ... Oh dear.

An absolute classic game, isn't it? I always seem to lose on it though...
