Advantages: Loads of extra adventures to play
Disadvantages: You might find it repetitive. Time disappears on you!
How many times have you tried an expansion pack for a game only to be really disappointed? More often than not they just don’t deliver and you end up feeling cheated or letdown because your expectations of value for money just aren’t fulfilled At long last my expectations for a good expansion pack haven’t been denied, in fact this one almost surpasses them! Poseidon is the product of which I speak so highly, it is the official expansion pack for Zeus and is from Impressions Games and Sierra. So what makes this different from so many others I hear you ask, well it’s a complete game in itself with tons of new items to keep it fresh. This time the game is set in Atlanta instead of Olympus and science is the chosen cultural pursuit instead of games. You still build and rule your city in the same manner but this time you can have orange groves to feed your people! Industry has more items to produce too such as black marble and orichalc which is a red metal used for decorating pyramids. Battles are fought exactly the same as before the only difference is the type of soldiers you have. This time you can build chariots to use with the horses. The main game is broken down into six adventures containing around seven episodes each. Overall I found them a little more difficult than the original Zeus adventures so they were definitely a challenge. Some proved to be a real pain and I had to restart the same adventure several times just to get it right! There are a few more Gods to worship including Atlas and Hera. Most of the sanctuaries stayed the same but I did notice a few had changed quite considerably and the new ones are quite spectacular! Everything seems to run very smoothly but if you do have problems there is an upgrade that can be downloaded from the official website, it only takes a couple of minutes and it’s super easy – even I managed to download and
install it without any headaches. Another bonus is the extra episode called ‘Rich Mans Blues’ that can also be downloaded. It’s not very big so this too doesn’t take very long. It’s quite challenging but good fun – at least I enjoyed it! If this does appeal to you it’s on sale as a complete package too, just look for Acropolis. There really isn’t a lot more I can tell you without making huge lists of everything that’s available, all I can say is go out and buy it! Oh and if you do, let me know what you think won’t you. .
