Rockstars 2nd attempt at a GTA psp title does not dissapoint...let round 2 commence.
Vice City Stories is set in the 1980s and acts as a prequel to the popular PS2 installement that is GTA Vice City. You play as Vic Vance, the brother of central Vice City character Lance Vance (the guy always in the purple or white suit).
A major issue with some games, especially with complex ones such as GTA VCS is the PSPs capability of allowing the user to play with ease. Overall functionality wise VCS plays very much as Liberty City Stories did. The same basic controls that feautred in the previous game are here. However the same problem regarding the targetting system still does occur occasionally with the game locking onto random civilians, instead of the guy shooting you to pieces. The camera has been improved however is not withouts its flaws as there are some instances where you will often be shot by a guy behind you who you cant see. On the whole the controls have been improved and make the game much more accessible and easier to play.
The combat and overall gameplay is typical GTA and simply loads of FUN!! Shooting people, stealing cars, flying planes, and even swimming as never been more enjoyable. Vice City itself as you would expect is a large environment filled with things to do and opportunitys to cause chaos. Those familiar with the PS2 version will feel right at home, and even those who havent will soon recognise landmarks and be able to naviogate the lush and virbant environments with ease. The map as usual indicates missions, safehouse and generally is your guide to the city.
The on foot and driving mechanics remain the same as always and havent been tweaked in any way that will affect veterans of the series. New to the lineup of vehicles is the chance to pilot planes and helicopters for the first time on psp and as an overall gta exlcusives.. jetskis are available.
The usual gta mission structure remains intact, however the missions themselves have been lengthened which though does make the game more involving, can also make it hard to play in short bursts. Overall though the mission types remain the same, they feel significanlty mroe fun to play than those played in LCS.
Of course it wouldnt be GTA without a host of side missions as well as unique jumps, rampages, hidden packages... u get the idea. Everything you have come to expect from a GTA title is there, and better than ever.
Multiplayer returns once more giving you another chance to takedown your mates (6 per game) in battles throughout Vice City Stories. The familiar deathmatch and team deathmatch modes return along with a host of new events. On the whole the multiplayer feels like a better overall package and will keep u entertained for hours. The gamesharing feature has still been left out, but every1 should own a copy of this game anyway!
And now the music, once again Rockstar have outdone themselves with a classic selection of songs from the 80s creating that great atmosphere you never thought was possible with a handheld game. The voice audio is well scripted and helps deliver an involving story that will keep you gripped till the very end. Everything from the neon lights, to the long ocean drive beach and the colourful characters helps create a truly unique gaming experince. Obviously the game is not without its flaws, however this is one of the finest psp titles available and therefore one you should own!
Summary: GTA VCS..... finest games on psp
